The WD were also artificialy intelligent. If one was sent in secret to eat an astroid field in an unvisited system it would be very big by now.

Yes they could build 45 at the same time...
But where would they put them? :D

Like he said they could work on abunch but you'd have to make a bigger ship first and that would just slow things down to much to make it worth it
Maybe

Just a quick question. IIRC, the World Devastators churned out unmanned TIEs did they not? If a WD made a Star Destroyer, would it necessarily be crewed? I'm purely speculating here. Has SW ever had any truly massive ships (ISD size and up) that were unmanned? Could they do it with droids and maybe even a small crew of people? That would cut down the manpower requirement if that was a legitimate concern

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might if they screamed all the time for no good reason.

Thoe TIEs were uncrewed, but they were easy to destroy. They were only effective in swarms.

A WD might only be required to take off the top 1km of a planet, but it could stay on the planet for far longer to make more ships. As a WD grows, it probably develops more "feet" to suck up the ground, and then when it becomes so large it looks like a big black mark on a planet (about 1000km long, 500km wide, and 100km tall), it would make only ISDs and other capital ships. To get a crew for an ISD, the WD would probably go into space briefly to launch the ship, and then the bare minimum crew needed to man an ISD would fly it to somewhere where it could be comissioned.

It is also said that a WD could make another WD, which could probably be used to go to another planet, or continue consumption of the current planet.

And my "fully mature WD" would have a volume of 50,000,000km3. Assuming a 1 cubic kilometer space for each ISD, and half the WD dedicated to producing ISDs, and 20 days required to construct an ISD (I don't know if that is a conservative estimate or a high estimate), over a million ISDs could come out of a "mature" WD every day. Because the material going in far exceeds the material being converted into expansions and ships, the ship would start out expanding itself so these materials could be stored at high density, and then, after they are full, the WD can stop consuming the planet for a few weeks, and fabricate other ships. Just my idea.
