I love it when dumb Trekkies try this one. My E-mail contact form is out there on my website; why don't these professors E-mail me to tell me how wrong I am? Of course, it's pretty hard for them to E-mail me when they don't exist, and the kiddie in question has never taken a university-level science course in his life.
Ah, yes. Most of his professors disagree with my assessment that his physics poor despite the fact that he's failed to show any sort of competency in that field at all. In fact, he's shown quite a bit of incompetency by implying a rock that lands on your head is just as bad as catching a baseball.

I actually posted a short video of a Russian APC firing its cannon once. Tracer rounds made it really obvious how fast the shells were moving, and if you compared that clip with a typical Star Wars action sequence, it would be pretty hard to keep claiming that real-life bullets smoke SW blaster bolts.
I remember showing that videoclip (hosted on rapidshare) on SB.com to refute just such a simple-minded argument. The response was "but we don't know how fast those shells are moving"- needless to say, them trying to tell me of all people that the speed of a round from a 2A72 cannon was unknowable didn't get very far.
This is a common video of various weapons (mainly gatling guns) using tracers. In many parts, you could almost mistake them for blaster bolts. 1:28 and 2:50 are notable.

Another video with a Tommy gun. Dodging that would be somewhat difficult.

Another one of Mike's favorites!

Ah, the "my prof said so" made famous by one of the most retarded, dishonest trektard in history. TOWNMNBS!!!

I can't believe this guy is so stupid that he actually responded to the point regarding the damage to docking bay 94 was to say the estimate was conservative!!! That only means the SW weapons did MORE damage, not less.

It should be noted that the muzzel velocity of a Mk 19 is low enough that one can actually see the round go down range to target. Though not a true rifle, the automatic grenade launcher is a crew served, large scale weapon. A lot of shoulder fired weapons are low velocity too, AT-4's are visible to the naked eye and they can fuck up a lightly armored vehicle.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I just watched some WW2 pacific war documentary or other and there was a lot of footage of AAA tracers, all of which were clearly trackable with the naked eye...
And it's not like muzzle velocities have increased all that much since then.
