He probably knows the "unimproved" version would sell better than his "definitive" vision.
Which means he's more concerned about his art, , than money.

I fear the day when art take precedence over making a buck. :D

If George thinks his fans are over-attached to the OT, he shouldn't have hyped them up with merchandise and books and other promotionals and release them multiple times on LD and VHS for 20 years, like he did.

And he should give the fans what they want. The SE's made alots of money, but it was the original films that made him rich in the first place, and what he won awards for.

Just lower your voice when you talk about Solo being a drug smuggler otherwise Lucas will state that spice is not a drug but a herbal that the evil evil empire forbade! And Solo did not throw it out but stole it and gave it generously to the people. Han (Robin Hood) Solo ... Wlllah

When I watch ANH (not SE) I have the feeling that I see (I am part) of something great. From the starting to the end.
When I watch TPM I have this feeling only once nearly at the end of the film, when the battle droids release. The pod race is exciting but nothing more.
When I watch AoTC I feel nothing.

That's not really George's problem. If you don't like his product (the SE and Prequel trilogies), don't buy it. You still have your VHS and/or LaserDiscs, don't you?

If he did everything the fans wanted him to do, he'd just be a money-grubbing bastard. As it is, he's sticking to his (admittedly dynamic) artistic vision, which is his and his alone.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Might as well, but unfortunately, online petitions rarely have any effect.

You never know.. sometimes media moguls make concessions...

Remember how none of the movies were going to get released on DVD until AFTER Episode III was done? That changed.

If you don't believe in the online petition, I suggest a letter writing campaign. If you don't care, then be happy, your super special editions are coming.

Laser Disc versions are all well and good, but considering the dearth of good LD players in North America (you can buy them used perhaps), not that viable an option. Of course if you have access to the DVDs you can capture/encode your OWN DVD's.. hmmm.....

Lucas released the movies multiple times on VHS and LD, but hasn't once on DVD. That's a crying shame, and nobody's fault but Lucas's. If he wants to release 'em in order, FINE, but give us the option to view the originals on DVD. Its not too much to ask.. THE FILMS ARE ALREADY DONE (and cleaned up, thanks to the SE work, unless he threw away all the old negatives), he doesn't need to shoot any new footage or make any new CGI characters.

In short, it wouldn't cost him much, and he's make more money... and more fans would be happy. What is there to lose?

Is he trying to fool people into thinking the originals never existed?

Yes it is my personal problem. As long as fans do not feel the same in numbers ...

I have TPM but I watched AoTC only in the theatre. I do not like it so I did not buy it.

I think you're the second person to say that TPM is better than AOTC. I don't know what Kool-Aid you're drinking, but power to you!

I will admit that AOTC is dependant on TPM for backstory (much in the same way that ESB and ROTJ are depedent on ANH for backstory) and it feels more "conventional" in its plotline (AOTC feels more like an action movie), but for sheer entertainment value, and quality of special effects, AOTC blows TPM out of the water.

IMHO, o' course.

No original versions.
Well thats kinda old news, the triology will not come as DVD, however, they will come after Episode III as a ultimate box set with both triologies as DVD's, there might even be a second SE of the originals then too.
