Actually i now remember that in the game SW: Rebellion an Imperial army garisson was showed with AT-AT's.
Since the AT-ST pilots had army uniforms also, the force at Endor might as well be a mix by army & marine (but mainly marine) :?

Why would walker pilots wear stormtrooper armor? They're already behind the walker's armor and the helmet would reduce their visibility even more than only having two piddly ass windows already does.

Its probably not full trooper armour. As for visibility, for all we know the helmet has an inbuilt HUD.

But we gotta give the rebels some chance right? ;) (maybe if you replaced Ewoks with a tribe of leet uber mutant Wookies :D )

Small bunkers covered with earth would've been hidden from the air and still have protected the backdoor well.

Yet the huge area with no trees to be dead give away on even a undedicated fly over. The ttrees are necisary for the door to remain secret. The veiws f rhw main gate give the impression that they did clear that area out. It appears they had cleared out areas for the use of walker patrols.

How would they have flown over with the shield generator in place? Besides, how would anyone get a chance to fly over? There is a giant Death Star in orbit with a bunch of StarDestroyers defending it. Fly-bys aren't exactly a huge concern. All told, by the time that fly-bys are even able to be launched (the shield is down and nothing in orbit is shooting at it) the base is already lost and a major disaster has happened. The only possible threat to the base is from the ground.

Are you willing to take that chance? We know The sensors on the shuttle are fairly good. Having the back entrance out in the open would be a bad Idea. It is not known about what the back enterance's purpose was but the inrention was it not be found. Truefully the Ewok victory is not as bad as we might all expect since it seems that even after the back door was attacked the majority of the available forces still stay near the main entrance. The bad commander in this case is the Emporer who tied the base commander;s hands.

What chance?

First of all, the whole DeathStar thing was a giant secret anyway. If people are making fly-bys other than your own ships, something is serious wrong with your operation. This doesn't even mention all the Stardestroyers and, oh yeah, the giant super battlestation floating around in orbit. Plus, it's got the shield generator itself protecting the moon. Even if they can see it from the sky, it doesn't make much of a difference, since nothing will able to get to it in any numbers.

Secondly, you say having it out in the open is a Bad Thing... but why is it a bad thing? Having a large space between you and the forest allows you to create a kill zone. Plonk down a pillbox or two with some gun emplacements and things would have to go majorly wrong for anyone to even be able to touch it. Plus, the large clear area surrounding your base would allow your vehicles (since you are the only one on Endor who has vehicles) to more quickly circumnavigate the base to bring them to bear in force. So what if the Ewoks know it's there or the Rebels? What are they going to do about it? They can't assault it without getting butchered by the gun encampments and if necessary, given general StarWars firepower, can chew the forest immediately beyond the clear cut zone into a charred golf green. With a nice fat killzone and some gun encampments, the garrison there could have just sit back and let their asses turn square, since nothing on or off Endor is going to be able to touch them.

I fail to see the huge risk here.

well i have to agree on that. But if it was like that, the rebels couldnt win with that script. And good guys HAVE to win
The reason why there had to be things like Ewoks instead of real dangerous natives is MARKETING

Ewoks were at least better than the Gun Guns from Episode 1.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Totally agree. I really hope Jar Jar gets a gruesome death in SW3

Has there ever been made a Ewok vs Gun Gun topic?
