everyone is still ignoring this, it seems:
Second, if lightning does this to something it hits, wouldn't Luke look like Palpatine after the thorough thrashing he got in ROTJ?

There's of course the problem that Sidious (for the part we can see) look no different from Palpatine in the Movies (IIRC).

That's what I'm thinking too. Besides Palpatine in the cartoons looks like he has spare skin hanging off the side of his face where his cheeks are meant to be.

We'll just have to get some shots of Sidious (TPM, AotC) and Palpy (RotS pre and post Mace encounter) and look at them.
