Oh, that. Hey, he's the chosen one, dammit!
I guess Vader lifted the information from Obi-wan's mind right before hacking him in ANH?

Given that, its entirely possible that Windu survived his plunge.
Anakin and Obi-wan weren't in extreme pain from having their hand cut off moments before.

Ignoring the fact I conceded his death since the novel apparently says he did, Obi-Wan had just had just been hit with a reasonably large explosion not 2 feet from where he was, I'd call that potentially painfull.

Obi-wan wasn't just fried by a Sith Lords Lightning attack.

He was dead before the Emperor tossed his corpse out the window

So Mace's scream was...after he died?

That entire book "Visionaries" is infinities. It was labeled as such before it came out, and continues to be. And then we have Lucas' comments specifically about Maul. Which, in contrast, we do NOT about Boba Fett.
Wait, you mean we never have Lucas say he intended for Boba Fett to die in ROTJ?
fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1

I thought the way people were interpreting the novelisation's description was that he "blacked out" (went unconscious) as he fell outside, and that (presumably) was why he died (that is, why unconscious, he couldn't pull an Anakin or Obi-Wan to survive the fall).

Luke can survive a fatal fall when his hand is cut off, being in extreme pain (both from his lost limb plus being beaten up by Vader's throw debris earlier and exhausted from the fight) and emotional anguish (even apparently having suicidal intentions at least at the start).

Anyway, it doesn't matter if Mace died and Lucas intends him dead, he can still bring him back. It's called "comic book death." ;) Not that he will, but there's nothing stopping him except the will to do it. Plus if you want to clone Mace, a bit of blood will do (if he hit a bus, even easier! Just scrap a sample off of the bumper), but the easiest way is just to say his hand landed inside, don't worry about the splattered body below.

Damn, I forgot the hand.

Okay, screw my previous arguement. I concede.

IIRC Lucas did originally intend for Boba to die in the Sarlacc Pit. However, he allowed for the character to come back in the EU, and also stated in the director's commentary re-releases that he thought about adding a clip showing Boba coming out of the Pit but didn't feel that it fit with the overall scene.
