Well that sucks.

Probably not too surprising. IIRC back in 1999 the Marketing Machine more-or-less dropped post-RotJ in favor of flooding us with the prequels, so really their focusing on the Sequel Trilogy isn't a huge shock.

At least they'll continue to put out content, in whatever form that will be. Which is good, because I like the stories they've told, want to see what happens with Ahsoka, and to see if they'll go back to the Mandalore Civil War, etc.

Well at least the series went out an a reasonably high note. I wonder if they'd have still canceled it if the disney purchase hadn't occured. The original plan was for just five seasons

Ok, where did you see that they were doing "specials" instead of one more full season? I just read the press release and watched the Filoni video, and it doesn't say anything about specials. They do talk about "winding down production," but that just seems like they're going to do one more season, maybe a shorter one. Both the press release and Filoni mention that they still have a few stories left to tell in the Clone Wars universe. The Seth Green spoof series (which I didn't even know about) is the one that is explicitly mentioned as being canceled

Tsk tsk, it's "on hold" not "cancelled" surely they'll still make it.

Y'know, when they make the Live Action series.

As much as I was just trashing it, I think I will be sad to see TCW go. While I still think the original 2002-2005 depiction of the Clone Wars was superior overall, the series has produced some great episodes that I would hold up against any other SW quality-wise, including the movies. There was usually at least one arc per season that was completely awesome, with no real flaws, and the preview in the Filoni vid makes it seem like they were getting back in to the action of the war that i've been missing. Add in the fact that the series was inching ever close to the epic events of Episode III, and I think that Season six would have blown all previous seasons right out of the fucking water. As it is, it seems like there's only going to be a shortened season or a couple of specials to finish out the storyline, though if the preview is any indication, whatever they do is going to be fucking epic. IMHO, the original Clone Wars media also got infinitely more epic and higher in quality as the events of Episode III drew closer, and I think the series would've followed the same trend. Filoni says the best stories are yet to come, and even if there are only a few stories left, I believe him.

I think they will at least release whatever they've already written and animated in some form or another. not releasing it would just be throwing money away. I'm hoping that we get one last full season to bridge the gap into Episode III, but more realistically, I think we're looking at a half-season or a couple of DVD specials

Speaking of the cartoon Clone Wars, how does this show integrate that one?

I don't know. The official line from the people in charge of continuity is "we'll figure out how everything fits together when the show's over."

So I guess we'll find out soon.

Personally I hope they go with the idea that they floated around when they were planning the series, that the show is an in-universe propaganda cartoon for Republic children. The events in the show did take place, but not exactly as depicted. That provides a decent excuse to disregard the series' retarded minimalism.

What minimalism?

Anyway, I have mixed feelings about it being cancelled. On the one hand, I used to like this show. On the other hand, while I haven't watched it much recently, I think it went down hill.

I wonder if this is a step towards declaring the show non-canon.

The biggest battle in WW2, Kursk, involved about 3 million soldiers and 8000 tanks. In TCW they attack Geonosis, a major enemy staging area in a war fought on a galactic scale, with three companies worth of clone troopers and a handful of walkers.

THAT minimalism.

They are probably wanting to go through it all and cut or change anything that they feel would impact what they are going to do. I mean I don't have high hopes for 1313 or Detours ever happening, but I would definately expect Clone Wars shit simply because they have alot, most, or possibly all of it done.

Detours I don't really care about, hell I didn't even know about it until a day before I read about it's cancellation. 1313 however, I was looking forward to. It looked pretty exciting, like maybe it would be the SW game that would break Lucasarts out of its slump.

This very much feels like Disney is "marking its territory" so to speak. They want to push full-forward with projects related to elements of the franchise that they have developed, to the determent of the previously established "eras" of SW, I.E. the Original Trilogy, the Prequel Trilogy, and the Old Republic era. I'm sure that they will do a few more stories in those eras, even if only as a cash-in, but for the foreseeable future, I think its going to be "all Sequel Trilogy, all the time."

You know, something I just thought of. Given TOR's lackluster performance over the past year, should fans be worried about that too? How ironclad is EA/BioWare's contract for TOR. Can Disney shut down the game if they want?

I've been a bit worried about TOR, myself and honestly have no idea. Last I heard they were back over a million subscribers and have some kind of real money setup going that I haven't bothered looking at. It may be doing just well enough financially and not step on Disney's toes storywise that it will continue. Now if suddenly the expansion pack get's pulled, then worry.

More and more it seems like the Star Wars I grew up with is dying off or being pushed aside to make room for whatever Disney wants to do with the franchise. They aren't just de-canonizing the EU, they're killing it entirely. Obviously for people like you or Havok who think the EU is all shit, all the time it isn't a problem, but for me, who honestly did love some of the stories it presented, it's cause for concern.

Why? Are the Disney Police going to storm into your brain and steal your memories? Why is a good book more or less good because someone you've never met says it's 'CANON'?

And is there anything but paranoia around this show being cancelled because of Jackbooted Disney Police?

So basically 1999 all over again.
Stark wrote:And is there anything but paranoia around this show being cancelled because of Jackbooted Disney Police?
I remember pretty much all OT era games went away in favor of EPISODE I THE GAME/POD RACING/JAR JAR'S ADVENTURE etc. back when that was a thing. I don't remember what they were doing with the EU books at the time, though.

So I for one don't think it's Evil Disney so much as...Lucasfilm being Lucasfilm. The only blame Disney has is for making Episode VII a thing. Which is pretty minor.

Whoa, where is this coming from? I haven't seen them coming out and saying "lol nope EU never happened". You could possibly infer it with TCW's track record of ignoring it in favor of telling their own story, and it's possible Ep7 will do something that basically kills the post-RotJ EU in one stroke (hello there, Anakin Skywalker, Jr!).

But until that happens I don't see a reason to be too worried about it.

No they fucking are not.
Fuck, didn't any of you retards read the press release?

"Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of Lucasfilm, a leader in entertainment, innovation and technology, including its massively popular and "evergreen" Star Wars franchise and its operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production. Disney will also acquire the substantial portfolio of cutting-edge entertainment technologies that have kept audiences enthralled for many years. Lucasfilm, headquartered in San Francisco, operates under the names Lucasfilm Ltd., LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, and Skywalker Sound, and the present intent is for Lucasfilm employees to remain in their current locations.

Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm, reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Additionally she will serve as the brand manager for Star Wars, working directly with Disney's global lines of business to build, further integrate, and maximize the value of this global franchise. Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future."
Robert Iger wrote:We're very happy that George Lucas will be creative consultant on our new Star Wars films and that Kathleen Kennedy, the current Co-Chair of Lucasfilm, will executive produce. George handpicked Kathy earlier this year to lead Lucasfilm into the future. She'll join Disney as President of Lucasfilm, reporting into Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn and integrating and building the Star Wars franchise across our company.
There is one person in Lucasfilm that reports to Disney and she reports directly to the Chairman on Walt Disney Studios. Nothing at Lucasfilm has changed other than her doing that and GL stepping down. Unless Horn or Iger decide they want to start dictating the direction of Star Wars, and why the fuck would they? It's not like they were saving a sinking ship or anything, then everything is coming internally from Lucasfilm

If they are ratcheting down production on the cartoon, it is because Lucasfilm wants to do it, not because big evil Disney said so. And it makes perfect fucking sense to do so as Lucasfilm is going to want to have all hands on deck for three live action movies that are slated and an ongoing series of movies for the future.
