In ESB....???
1.Slave I was part of the Avenger's garbage dump? How'd it get in there? And why was it there in the first place.....he was on the Executor........
2. Proton bombs from the TIE bombers did nothing to the asteroid it bombarded...so what was it's purpose?
3. General Reiken made a comment that there were many meteorites in the system that will interfere with detecting ships coming in from hyperspace......Can the asteroids block scans or the sensors cannot distinguish between the asteroids and ships?
4. Vader wanted Executor to move out of the Asteroid field to have a clear transmission. So asteroids have an affect on the holonet right?
Things I saw:
Han said he didn't hit the probe droid hard...meaning he didn't have his blaster at full power.
Rogue 2 sounds weird when I finally paid attention to his voice.
The Walkers were at the North Ridge which is considerably far from the base supposely since it took time for the speeders to get there....we see a scene with R2 and in the background hear the walkers....
Is it speakers or really from the ground?
Cyaround,
Jason

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

It was to just scare the Falcon out.2. Proton bombs from the TIE bombers did nothing to the asteroid it bombarded...so what was it's purpose?
Asteroids have high levels of minerals. That interferes with transmissions.3. The ceiling crumbles. It's real. The tunnels under Hoth are expansive. R2 very well could have been near the North Ridge. He could have been on the other side of the compound from the "hangar".The Walkers were at the North Ridge which is considerably far from the base supposely since it took time for the speeders to get there....we see a scene with R2 and in the background hear the walkers....

1. Boba Fett may have 'snuck in' to the garage dumper, then slipped into the garbage flow. His ship has an extensive stealth system, so it wouldn't be hard. But, forgive me if I'm wrong( which I most likely am).
3. It was stated in the Essential guide to weapons that Hoth was not equipped with active scanners, only an electro-scope , ( eletronically enchanced telescope) since they didn't want to alert and passer by of their presence via their active scanning. It's entirely possible that this simple passive system could not keep track of everything because of all the meteors. They could have used a more advanced model, but this one was mobile and easy to mantain.
2. Since Vader wanted the Falcon intact, maybe they were ionic bombs of some sort, causing only ion-cannon like effects.
4. Asteroids do not effect Holonet transmissions. He wanted to move out of the field so they could lower their shields and send the transmission, since Holonet transmission won't go through combat shields, which were in use to protect the ship from hails of asteroids.

What makes you think there are only one or a few kinds of proton bombs? Proton torpedoes can be a kiloton or so, why not proton bombs?Soontir C'boath wrote: 2. Proton bombs from the TIE bombers did nothing to the asteroid it bombarded...so what was it's purpose?
I should point out TIE Bombers can also carry thermal detonators - it may not neccesarily have proton bombs.)
No.. he said that the meteorites would make it difficult to spot "Approaching ships" not ships in hyperspace. That means ships approaching in realspace. Remember that they are trying to avoid detection, so active sensing would not be practical. And passive sensors of any kind can be confused or disrupted by any sort of emitting source or body (like a meteorite)3. General Reiken made a comment that there were many meteorites in the system that will interfere with detecting ships coming in from hyperspace......Can the asteroids block scans or the sensors cannot distinguish between the asteroids and ships?
I point out that when the Death Squadron dropped out of hyperspace close to Hoth, the Rebels had no trouble detecting the emergence from hyperspace.
Objects in hyperspace can still interact with objects in realspace ("Without precise calculations..." remember Han's quote from ANH?)4. Vader wanted Executor to move out of the Asteroid field to have a clear transmission. So asteroids have an affect on the holonet right?
This would be true of both communications and sensors (in fact, for it to be an effective means of communication, its a prerequisite)
Or, that his blaster didnt' have enough power to blow it apart as spectacularily as it did.Things I saw:
Han said he didn't hit the probe droid hard...meaning he didn't have his blaster at full power.
Which has relevance how...?The Walkers were at the North Ridge which is considerably far from the base supposely since it took time for the speeders to get there....we see a scene with R2 and in the background hear the walkers....

For #1, Fett could have simply hidden on an asteroid like Han with his systems powered down, and waited for Falcon to power up.

For number one, what's the time difference between the Bounty Hunter meeting on the Executor and when the Falcon leaves her hiding place on the asteroid?
I remember it as being pretty long, or at least long enough for Fett to have gone to the Avenger. He knew that the Avenger was one of the frontline destroyers, and that it had recent contact with the Falcon (isn't the Avenger the one pursuing the Falcon before the Falcon goes into the asteroid?).
Once aboard the Avenger, Fett presumably talked the Imperial techs into putting Slave I in the trash. Since a lot of those pieces of trash were really big, there's obviously some sort of internal conveyance system for large pieces of machinery, with access to the garbage chute...it would make perfect sense for this to connect to the hangar, as that is where they would repair damaged ships.
The real question is how Fett knew Han would use that trick. If he simply saw Han attach to the back, that would make sense, but he was lying in wait, indicating that he anticipated the trick. Perhaps the trick is well known among scoundrels, but even so, Fett was pretty lucky that Han used it at that particular instance.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Yes it did self destruct, probots are dangerous, it vaped an entire wampa in the novel.Shinova wrote:About the probe droid:
Didn't it self-destruct, hence why Han was surprised because he didn't shoot it with that much power?

Every smuggler know this standard imperial procedure and Fett knew also that the Falcon disappeared from the sensors near the Avenger.
For further info, read Tales of the bounty hunter's...
Most of the tales describes this event from a different POV.
As for the walkers:
On the R2 scene you can hear only the shaking of the ground. A little snowball hits R2's head. The snow came down from the ceiling because of the shaking.
All your other questions are already answered.

Regarding Question 1
If Boba Fett had to fly over to the Avenger why didn't he spot the Falcon attached to the back of it? He could have then signaled Vader & the whole fleet could have converged on the Avenger.
Or he could have signalled the Avenger & they could have deployed Space Troopers to assault or disable the Falcon...
Just a thought...

But then he probably wouldn't have gotten the bounty.DocHorror wrote:Regarding Question 1

No, but he was the one who followed the Falcon and alerted the Imps to the Rebels' presence on Bespin, so in that respect he'd get the bounty. He did "find" them after all.DocHorror wrote:Possibly, but he didn't exactly catch Solo on his own on Bespin either...so who knows...
Then again, if logia & comon sense was applied it probably would have been a short film...

How is that different from telling Vader that the Falcon was on the back of the Avenger?

Because then the Imp fleet would move in and take all the credit, wheres on Bespin, he could claim that he tracked them without having spotted them earlier, and that they wouldn't have made it without him.Darth Yoshi wrote:How is that different from telling Vader that the Falcon was on the back of the Avenger?

And with that, there was a good possibility of getting Luke as well as Han and Leia.IG-88E wrote:Because then the Imp fleet would move in and take all the credit, wheres on Bespin, he could claim that he tracked them without having spotted them earlier, and that they wouldn't have made it without him.Darth Yoshi wrote:How is that different from telling Vader that the Falcon was on the back of the Avenger?
Did fett know about that part beforehand? IIRC the briefing for the Bounty Hunters didn't include Luke...since Vader assumed he would begin torturing Han/Leia AFTER the hunter turned them over.Stormbringer wrote:And with that, there was a good possibility of getting Luke as well as Han and Leia.IG-88E wrote: Because then the Imp fleet would move in and take all the credit, wheres on Bespin, he could claim that he tracked them without having spotted them earlier, and that they wouldn't have made it without him.

No...I don't believe he had given the novel says nothing towards this and Fett and the others were basically in this because the Empire was giving a bounty as well as Jabba the Hutt.
Luke was really never a part of the bounty as is...and really Vader's goal.

Vader simply knew that if he capture the Falcon and it's passengers then young Skywalker will come to rescue them...
Let's get back to the Executor when Vader talking to the bounty hunters.
At that time a message is coming in from the Avenger that they've found them. So Boba Fett probably rushed to the Slave-1 and hid somewhere near the Avenger.
The Falcon's sensors were off-line otherwise they'd be detected. So Solo didn't see the Slave-1 as well. While Fett's had to rely on his eyes as well untill the trash has been released.
Then both ship turned on it's engines and headed to Bespin.
Slave-1 has a military cloacking device which hides the ship from sensors but not from visual contact. So Fett followed the Falcon and Solo didn't spot him. Then Fett made a possible calculation on their vector and the only result was Bespin. So he jumped there and by the time the Falcon get there he already signalled the imperials and had enough time to disable IG-88/B -as I remember- as well.
