Good Revisions

Post by Ryoga »

(Here's hoping this hasn't been done before...my brain is still kinda fried)

There have been a lot of rumors about GL doing this or that to the original trilogy DVD collection...some sort of re-remastering, redubbing Stormies, etc. Here's a question, though: What sort of revisions do you think would be cool (Han stepping on Jabba's tail! ) as opposed to lame (Greedo shooting first  )?

Personally, I think it would be neat to play up the destruction of Alderaan. Something maybe along the lines of when the Zentraedi blew up Earth cities in 'Macross' (i.e., we see an MP bending down to talk to a little girl...and as he's making small talk, they both turn to see the expanding fireball that vaporizes them). Maybe have a pan over the capitol (another SW city! w00t!), moments before a green bolt flashes out of the heavens and turns it into so much particulate matter.

NO DO NOT FUCK WITH ALDERAAN. First off, this would no doubt somehow get rabid Trekkies plenty of ammo to work with crazy ideas (see DarkStars MCR, for example). And secondly the OT already been way too messed up. Doing something that elaborate would, for lack of better words, take away the 'magic' of the scene, as brutal and violent as it was.

I really don't think any additions are necessary, but here are some scenes that wouldn't bother me:

ANH: Palpatine dissolving the Senate
ANH: Scene with Bail Organa just before Alderaan blows up
ANH: Han shoots first

ESB: On Coruscant, Emperor talking to Vader via holonet
ESB: Luke doesn't scream when he falls

ROTJ: cut out the SE dance party at Jabba's palace

I don't think there should be a shot of Qui-Gon's ghost at Endor, though many people think that would be cool. Luke doesn't know Qui-Gon, so it wouldn't make any sense.
Other than those, some general touchups wouldn't be objectionable. But really, no additions are necessary.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Some ideas:

ANH:

1. More action based shots on the chase of the Tantive IV and make it's boarding more real...

2. Han must shoot first!!!

3. I want to see more TIEs at the Battle of Yavin.

ESB:

1. Want to see the wampa attack on Echo base. (Deleted scene)

2. My favourite Battle of Hoth need some new shots. I'd like to see the battle by troops against snowtroopers for the generator. Originally this was planned. When they fail, Veers destroy it with Blizzard 1.

3. More shot on Boba Fett arriving at Bespin, disabling IG-88/B and alerting Vader.

4. Some shots on Boba Fett landing at Tatooine. (I know first he went to Gall...)

RotJ

1. Want to see Mara Jade in Jabba's audience hall, while Luke threatening Jabba.

2. More close shots on the Rebel Fleet at Sullust.

3. More action shots on the Battle of Endor (space battle)

4. Clear the ewoks and replace them with GUNGANS... Just kidding!!!

5. Want to see some shots on rebels boarding and capturing a Star Destroyer.

As long as we get to see extended footage to the major battles, Yavin, Hoth and Endor i'd be very happy. Maybe see the Rebel ships dropping landing shuttles to bring Han more troops? After all i'm not the only one pissed off that a haughty prncess, a pirate, his wookie, 2 droids and about a million over stuffed teddy bears beat "AN ENTIRE LEGION" of the empires best troops.

This should be stickied. We've gone over this many times.

Episode IV

- Greedo did not fire first

- Obi-Wan's lightsabre fixed

- Either fix the Jabba scene or remove it

Episode V

- Replace the original Emperor with Ian McDiarmid

- Remove Luke's scream when he escapes Vader

Episode VI

- Enhance the Battle of Endor- add more Rebel ships, preferably the designs they didn't have time to build in the first place (see concept sketches on SWTC), and show the big ships actually doing something, goddamit.

I'd leave the rest of it alone.
