We've had a few threads about The Complete Incredible Cross Sections, but as it has been released (but unfortunately I haven't managed to get my hands on it yet) I thought it would be appropriate with a release thread.

There's an article which lends some insight into the new material here.

If Mon Cal cruisers aren't included, I won't bother to buy the book.

So is it a selection of the previous books, or did they leave in everything?

Mine arrived today, way earlier than I expected it to.

It's everything from the previous four books, plus cross-sections of the TIE bomber, Imperial shuttle, A-wing, and B-wing.

If you already own the four books and don't care about being a bonus completest, then you can probably skip it.

What is the difference between this version and the version that's coming out in April? Other than one having a Tie Bomber on the front and the other having a Tri Droid fighter obviously.

They both claim to have 136 pages on Amazon so is it just a different cover?

Can you post any interesting new information about these ships? :)

And does the book do anything to explain how the B-wing magically fits in all those torpedoes?

The B-wing would be easy to explain. The number of torpedoes it can cram in can depend highly on yield and type. A close, in, dogfighting torpedo (maybe for defense) would be smaller (and allow for more space). Likewise, a slow, close-range torpedo with a heavy warhead might be able to cram in a few (or not, depending on yield or role.)

On the other hand, if they skip over the big ships, there's also less chance of them screwing things up on the capitla ship scale. Its much more forgivable on the fighter scale.

Personally I'll be happy if they left Curtis' stuff untouched, even if they recycled a crapload of WEG data. (We ignore that stuff when neccessary as it is.)

There's only one version. The cover with the Tri-Droid was just an earlier, tentative cover that Amazon stuck with for some reason. The TIE bomber is the real cover.

So what kind of stats do the new ships have? Did they leave the stats from the other books alone or what?

That is true, as unfortunate as it may be. But I hate it that there is an information blackout because some stooges have their heads stuck in the sand.

But Saxton is an evil, insidious influence seeking to corrupt and destroy all that is sacred at Lucasfilm! and the Talifans are supporting him! They clearly need to suppress such heretical and dangerous ideas he spouts for the good of Star Wars lest corruption spread! Its bad enough he's already infected some aspects of it. They have to isolate it further until it can wither and die away or be excised and the "proper" way of thinking be reintroduced!

Man, I kinda felt like Stark there for a second. I wonder if I should be worried :P

Seriously, its probably been a long time coming and there isn't much it seems we can do about it (given the Gestapo controlling information to those who matter.) If we've endured WEG for this long and ignored it, I see no reason why it would be difficult to keep on doign so when it is blatantly ridiculous.

I have largely become disillusioned with the EU, and the latest novels simply.. suck. I refuse to touch them anymore. The comics at least have some interesting new stories, but the novels.. a rehash of the rehash of the rehash...

Some people have lost touch with reality and forgotten what is really important, not some story that is hardly really that great other than giving them a warm feeling of nostalgia.

The new ships have the same kind of light stats that we saw in the OT and TPM ICSs, rather than the heavy stats from AotC or the semi-heavy stats of RotS.

Fortunately, it seems everything of those latter two have been left alone.

As for stuff on the new ships, while there isn't anything amazing that jumps out at you right away, let me skim through and list the most notable:

TIE bomber: still has solar cell wings, laser cannons under cockpit, EMP generator between pods, carries multiple types of ordinance (bombs, mines, and missiles), missiles fired through front by force field generator.

Lambda-class shuttle: cockpit section can eject as lifeboat in emergency while leaving passenger section behind, 20 passengers.

A-wing: laser cannons have a 120-degree firing arc and can also shoot behind craft while moving forward but mounts subject to frequent failure, reinforced front wedge hull, derived from the R-22 Spearhead.

B-wing: main wing can pivot through 360-degrees, doesn't seem to carry very many torps: 4 in the wing, 3+? in the body, plus 1 in secondary launcher.

I'll conduct a more in depth comparison with the stand-along books tomorrow.

Cool. Torpedoes in the wings? Erm ... where?

Down in that little pod thing with the launcher and ion cannon. :P Sorry, should have been a bit more specific.

In that respect the B-wing seems pretty lightly armed considering the book states it has the firepower equivalent to a Imperial Corvette.

Did they mention the yields for the torpedoes in question?

So, are we supposed to take this handful of torpedoes that they were actually able to draw in as uber-torps with a firepower-to-size ratio far greater than normal torpedoes? :)

I get the feeling that Saxton would have just disposed of the EU's heavy firepower claims and just rewritten the whole thing, if he had been given the job.

37. In a row.

No, they didn't.

It would have made more business sense for LFL to give each of the OT movies their own ICS book. But then there would be a fuck up with the size of the DSII, I fear.

Wait, what? How does that work with the boarding ramp :?

I'd buy this in a heartbeat, if the import book shop hadn't mysteriously vanished...let's hope Fnac carries it at some point.

Do they maintain the AotC ICS Numbers?

Yes, that's already been confirmed earlier on the page.

They're not likely to deliberately contradict earlier published material, but sometimes their clumsy attempts to retcon various contradictory items in past literature (the "we refuse to admit mistakes" mentality) leads to truly absurd and stupid rationalizations. Like KKKaren Traviss' idiotic notion of a single clonetrooper being worth millions of battle droids (which itself was a direct contradiction of the AOTC novel, which she had obviously never bothered reading, along with the AOTC film, which I'm wondering if she ever bothered watching).
