"Turbolasers = lasers" fun

The "turbolasers = lasers" thing is acctually quite funny, becuase if turbolasers is lasers becuase they have the word laser in it, then Star Destroyers must be capable of destroting stars, becuase that's what the name suggests "star DESTROYER = destroyer of stars". And the Death Star must be some kind of new star, like a neutron star but made out of metal, and the super star destroyer must be capable of destroying super sized stars, otherwise it wouldn't be called SUPER star destroyer, would it?

This must be pointed out to rabid trekkies and the like, if they think that turbolasers is just lasers... 8)

Then the trekkies will bring up "Galaxy class starships are the same size of a galaxy, otherwise why would they call it "Galaxy".

In that case, the Soverign will no longer be used in SW vs ST because it is obviously an independant ship with no influence from the Federation.

I honestly would have no problems whatsoever if GL came out and said they where L.A.S.E.R's

There's nothing wrong with a laser that I can see, it's just a beam of coherent light or x-rays or gamma rays.

What about Luke Starkiller?

I would, because they are NOT lasers. They don't look like lasers and they don't act like lasers.

He would be arrested, tried in an L.A. court and found innocent by the same jury that was assigned to the OJ case.:P

Do ordinary people kill stars? I think the only people who kill stars are other stars, since if some that wasn't famous did it, they wouldn't get away scotch free with it.

Using the turbolaser=laser thing, we can assume that a starfighter can actually fight a star, and the Millenium Falcon is an actual bird.

Then that's one old bird.

Though anyone want to try and wonder about Han Solo?

And Luke Skywalker can walk in the sky. He's like a superhero.

And TIE Fighters are designed to go after those amusing neck decorations that businessmen wear!

Yes, but businessmen employ TIE Defenders for their tie's security...

Whilst the "Tie Interceptors" intercept all those poorly fashioned ties and save our eyes from the eyesoring horrors that would have awaited...great wee invention really... :P

Which is more moronic: thinking that the turbolasers are lasers even if they don't behave as such, or thinking that anything can be impervious to a certain "kind" of attack, no matter the force of the attack?

And TIE Bombers take all those ugly ties and drop them on innocent people's houses...quick, start shooting down all the Bombers you can find!

I would say the second, it's more easy to explain the laser fallacy, then to make people see the error in their reasoning on the "infinite yield".

I agree with that... but it still becomes a sore point, I mean, sure Star Wars gets off the hook easy, but then others must pay for the stupid reasoning (like a future uber-Earth universe where they actually do use LASERS, strong enough lasers to slice the Death Star in half, for instance, shields included... then I claim "you can't kill me because my proton-core-mega-field is immune to anything with the letter 'L' on it!)

Well you could always helpfully point out that if they insist a Turbolaser is an actual laser just how damn fucking huge that would make an ISD nevermind the ickiness of an SSD or hell even a TIE fighter. That would probably make them change their mind real quick.

You mean because of the speed of light? Anyway I'm talking hypotethically, if another universe DID use lasers, saying "nyah I'm immune to lasers" (nyah, i'm immune to stakes, garlic, sunlight, nyah) will always be stupid.
