The Balmorran SD-9 & SD-10 droids, some kickass machines

I've found some interesting information on them:
Weapons: Heavy Repeating Blaster & Plasma Cannons
Height: Almost Twice As Tall As A Protocol Droid

"The massive SD-9 incorporated laser-reflective armor, ionization shielding, tireless servomotors, and pinpoint targeting sensors. The model's hands were replaced with heavy repeating blaster and exlosive plasma cannons"

"Governor Beltane boasted to potential investors that a single SD-9 was the equivalent of one hundred fully outfitted infantrymen, and this boast was true, but Beltane failed to mention the droids had cost to match."

"Leth added his brilliance and considerable armament experience to the development of the SD-10. The newest SD was stronger, tougher, and more intellegent than any of its predecessors. The new model came equipped with a miniature concussion missile launcher and an improved sensor package"

"Unknown to Leth or his Dark Side Master, Beltane's crews beefed up the new battle droids with fast-reaction servos, point-of-impact shielding, and experimental self-healing metals. Also furthermore their databanks contained all the warfare tactics programmed into the SD-9s, also they were programmed with foolproof methods for frustrating and defeating those tactics"

"In open combat outside the capital city, Beltane's fresh-from-the-assembly-line SD-10's made hasd out of the Empire's outmatched SD-9's, but unfortunately the grounded automatons fared poorly against aerial attack, as Palpatine's Shadow Droids soon proved."

Old knowledge, we have allways known that those things are mean, very very mean. But this is good additional info anyways. The only thing that those sorry redshirts could do when facing one of those would be to run and cry :D

This info is in the Essential Guide to Droids.

Pah! X-1 Viper "Automadon", now that's kickass! They slaughtered the imperials in Dark Empire.
The X-1 Viper was one of the first products that Balmorran Arms produced, manufactured, and marketed the droid entirely on their own without any influence from the outside like the Galactic Empire, its design team nicknamed the X-1 Viper the "Automadon." Governor Beltane had intended to sell the droid to the New Republic, but with the rise of the cloned Emperor it put a major cramp in his plans. His company was once again forced to serve the Galactic Empire, but Beltane still was able to secretly put the finishing touches on the X-1 Viper. When Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Empire tried to forcably takeover all of Balmorran Arms operations, and at this time Beltane decided it was time for the X-1 to have a field test. The droids stunned the Imperial troops when they saw the droids lumbering on to the battlefield on their six-limbs. These droids proved to be more than the Empire's best SD-9's, AT-ST's, and Shadow Droids could handle. The droids six-limbed design allows the unit to walk on its two back legs while the other four limbs spray the battlefield with fire. The middle set of appendages is ended with an advanced blaster cannon that each pack the punch of a capital ship turbolaser. The droid also has two smaller laser cannons that are sealed beneath its chin. The units heavy front pincers had the lightning reflexes to snare a low-flying airspeeder, and the tensile strength to maintain thir grip while steering the unfortunate craft straight into the ground. The units most foridable tool is full- body molecular shielding, an experimental technology that absorbed the energy of a laser blast and shunted it into the power cells of the droids' own weapons systems. The famous Balmorran skirmish ended with a negotiated peace but Beltane secretly allowed the New Republic to hijack a new shipment of X-1 Viper droids. The droids were designed for supervised combat, which ment that they had manual override controls in their heads. So a strike team that was headed by Lando Calrissian and Wedge Antilles stowed away inside their cramped innards during their transport to Byss. Then when the commandos arrived at Byss they commandeered their rides and steered the unstoppable Vipers right up to the gates of the Imperial Citadel. When Palpatine's grotesque chrysalis beats tryed to stop the escape, and General Calrissian came to a sobering realization that the droids fancy molecular shielding was useless against primitive claws, fangs, and muscle.

If the had only put some more armor on it ...

Yes, but will you ever manage to wedge it into something like Echo Base?

No, but I could use them to take care of the guys in the trenches. As for the base itself ... well, that's what you have stormtroopers for.

Even if it can't do every job, the Viper is still a beautiful toy. Definitely agree on the additional armor though.

I third the armor. Had it some real steel over that fancy molecular shit they wouldn't have been torn a new one by Palp's rancors...

The molecular shielding wouldn't be foolproof, you could still overpower it with a powerful enough blast.
