Who designed the Imperial Star Destroyer?

I don't mean in-story, I mean who designed it IRL? Was it Lucas himself or someone else?

Just wondering, because it's often been pointed out that the daggerform of the Star Destroyer would actually be an ideal shape for a space battleship (optimizing weapons arc covereage in the most useful way).

So I was wondering if the designer had any actual military background, or if it was a chance happenstance of an completely unmilitary civilian coming up with a militarily useful design.

Iella Wessex (spl?).

She also designed the Executor-class, if I am not mistaken.

Iella Wessex
Are you sure? I though that was Corran's Old Partner and Wedge's Temporary love intrest and she was a memeber of the NR Intel service

Not an Imperal Engineer of note

Oops. It is Lira Wessex. (EGTVV)

Iella's last name I don't remember, but it wasn't Wessex, Bean.

He wasn't talking about in the SW universe (Lira Wessex in this case, daughter of Walex or so who designed the VSD)

He asked who of Lucas' team designed the ISD model.

The blueprints for the ISD were made by Geoffrey Mandel.
I don't know who actually built the model.

No Frank, Iella the former CorSec sidekick of Corran Horn.

Wessiri or something like that is right.

EGTV&V says Lira designed the ISD and SSD.

"TheExecutorwas built at the starship yars of Fondor after being designed by Lira Wessex, designer of the Imperial Star Destroyer." -P.54

EDIT:I could find nothing on this "Wessiri" chracter, but Walex Blissex designed the VicStar, according to the SW Encyclopedia.

No no Lira Wessex designed the Victory SD and after defecting to the rebellion she helped Dodonna design the A-Wing. I might me wrong but i know she defiantely co-designed the A-Wing.

That was her father Walex.

Wrongo. I probably shoudln't have edited the above post, as nobody has seen it, so I'll just make a new one.

I could find nothing on this "Wessiri" chracter, but Walex Blissex designed the VicStar, according to the SW Encyclopedia.

"Designed near the end of the Clone Wars by Walex Blissex, a Republican engineer," -P.327

So the father, the Wessiri and the Iella still remain mysteries. Man the EU sure makes shit confusing.

Don't take that out of context, Darth P. was talking about the VSD, and I've also heard about this A-Wing/Jan Dodonna connection.

I'm just relaying the facts, Lira Wessex cannot be the daughter of Walex Blissex, who designed the VSD.

I've got no porblem with the A-wing/Dodonna thing.

Lira Wessex, Imperial engineer, built her work on the shoulders of giants. Her father, Walex Blissex, had developed the venerable Victory-class Star Destroyer for the Republic, as well as numerous other starcraft designs

Marriage, I would assume

And in abswer to the question asked, no idea. Might have been the guy who's illustrations make up the Illustrated SW univers. Can't recall his name though

Just to clear up this name business, IELLA WESSIRI is a character in the X-wing series. She worked with Corran during his CorSec days and ended up marrying Wedge.

Are you dumbfucks incapable of reading?

Maybe you should re-check the first line of my original post:

Geoffrey Mandel and Joe Johnston

God, what the fuck is wrong with you people?

At least, I think. Johnston pretty much had a hand in almost every model design for the film.

I doubt Lucas himself. The SD appears quite flat in the movie and the novelization refers to it as "bristling w/ weaponry"

Well the "From SW to IJ, the best of the Lucasfilm archive" kinda hints that a man named Lorne Peterson did. In the ANH section where they are discussing how craft in SW would have "wear and tear." To quote:

"We created the spaceship models with what we called 'broiler plate technology,'

So maybe it was him...maybe you could try searching his name on google or something.
