Stormies are NOT clones!
Unless GL decides to vandalize this scene, they are not all identical clones.

Give him time....*sigh*
Much like Greedo shooting first.
But yeah I think most people here agree Stormies are not clones...or at least a mixture.

I recall a novel mentioning a Stormtrooper training facility. In fact, wasn't Kyp Durron's brother a stormtrooper?

Yeah...heck in TIE Fighter the novelette, they mention one of Stele's friends becoming a ST.
Most have always though Stormies are just elite crack troopers, and even with AoTC they believe that Stormies are at best a combo.

If he "corrects" the OT Stormies would you think the Emperor will be re shot with Ian McDiarmid?

That was British actor Clive Revill who was the Emperor in TESB. You don't really see his face and the voices are similar enough to where the effort of matting in Ian McDiarmud wouldn't be worth the expense.Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Not in TESB, during the hologram sequence. I fear the DVD Editions greatly, because Lucas has been quoted that he has "special" plans for the films. He may butcher the originals even further.
I mean the man can't help himself, in the time it took for AOTC to go from theaters to DVD he just had to make changes. Adding spark effects to Jango's backpack? Any idiot can figure out that a huge beast trampling you isn't good for you or whatever you might have attached to your body.

Though I prefer recruited troopers, it is possible that the clones aren't all from the same source.
Unless GL specifically says that every single stormtrooper ever is a clone, I'm going to maintain that some are recruits, some are clones, and that not all the clones are of the same guy.

Actually, the difference in height do not mean they can't be clones. They can just be clones from different templates.
However, cloning an entire army is still much more impractical than recruiting. So it's most reasonable to assume that most Stormtroopers are recruits, but that the Empire purchases some cloned Stormtroopers just to keep Kamino's planetary economy running. (after all, the Clone Wars resulted in the banning of cloning in the Empire, and that must have pissed off the Kaminoans)

Clive Revill's voice was dubbed over an old woman wearing (green? yellow?) makeup, with the eyes of a chimpanzee imposed over hers.
I think it's a great effect, adding further mystery to Palpatine, so hope they don't change it.
I do hope that they FINALLY fix some of the flipped shot errors in ROTJ, though. They always bugged the hell out of me, even as a kid.

Actually replacing the anomlaous ESB Emperor is precisely what I want. It fucks with continuity and it doesn't look anything like Ian McDiarmid.
And you know- I wouldn't mind if every Stormtrooper got digitally altered to be the same height.
One of the advantages of AOTC was that none of their Clones were holding their guns crooked on parade.

Even if they were cloned from seperate sources, it still wouldn't make sense to have clones with such significant height differences of several inches to a foot. Stormtrooper armor is supposed to be built to fit the Stormtrooper perfectly, right? Then wouldn't it make sense to have all clones be the same height, in order to standardize equipment?

LOL. Lord Wong supports me. But *shrug* who knows anymore.Darth Wong wrote: Unless GL decides to vandalize this scene, they are not all identical clones.
The "they could be from different templates" is a REALLY bad argument. They have the ability to genetically custom their clones to the point of 2 x accelerated life cycle without debilitating side-affects, but they wouldn't safe their logistics A BIG FUCKING HEADACHE by simply editing ALL of their templates to have the same size?!
Also, please, SOMEONE PLEASE POST THE REDO OT QUOTE FROM GL BEFORE ANYONE MENTIONS IT AGAIN.
Everybody claims they've heard of it. No one, NO ONE, backs that up w/ evidence.
Anyway.
One can basically assume some are clones, and I believe when the original stormtrooper corps were formed, their backbone/officers were Clone Wars veterans.
Possibility 1: They're mostly recruits, some clones. Certain assignments would neccessitate clones. Thrawn's black campiagn in the UR, the Death Star construction projects (nixing the extra troops Palpy brought in for the Endor trap), Maw Installation, possibly the Red Guard, assignments at Palpatine's fortresses in the Deep Core, extremely good Spec Ops groups, etc. This would allow the run-of-the-mill stormie to be a recruit. I always prefered the idea of the Empire being able to take away someone's individuality that much.
Possibility 2: A lot of them are clones, but garrisons and low-priority stormtroopers are likely recruits.
Possibility 3: They're all clones.
Possibility 4: They're all clones of Jango. (really fucking stupid idea)
The probability they're mostly CONSCRIPTS taken from political enemies' families is abysmally low. In fact, Trooper Durron never achieved posting outside of Carida itself. They're likely a tiny minority just forced in their as a sadistic way of punishing them or their families.Exonerate wrote:I recall a novel mentioning a Stormtrooper training facility. If a lot of them are not clones, they're almost certainly politically pro-Empire fanatical volunteers belonging to a certain range of high standards for optimal troops.
