Does that name actually mean something in SW or real life, or did someone just pull it out of thin air?

It was taken from Lubyanka--the Soviet prison adjacent to the KGB headquarters. Not someplace you wanted to end up.

does it have any significance in SW history?

The Lusankya was a special-version of an Executor-class Commandship, modified and purpose-built as Palpatine's emergency get-away vehicle. As such was also one of his stashes of private treasures. It was secretly buried on Coruscant w/out anyone knowing through unknown means. The Kuatis were led to believe that they got the contract for the Executor while Fondor was told the same. The Fondor Executor WAS the Executor, but the Kuati Executor actually became the Lusankya. For these reasons, no one knew it had been built.
Ysanne Isard built a secret prison for brainwashing subconsciously-triggerable sleeper agents w/out them fully knowing so.
Corran Horn was the only man to ever escape. The special Executor-class fired up repulsors and ion engines and blasted out of Coruscant after he escaped.
The Lusankya was later ambushed and captured by Wedge Antilles and his allies at Thyferra.
The Lusankya was towed to a secret New Republic shipyard where the extensive damage was repaired. Work on the vessel hit a stand-still during the Thrawn Campiagn, and was nearly done when Isard tried to steal it again. She was killed, but work was again halted during Palpatine's blitzkrieg that nearly toppled the New Republic. Shortly after Palpatine's final death, the Lusankya was recomissioned as a New Republic warship.
The Lusankya would aide well over the years, and was finally destroyed during a battle against the Yuuzhan Vong at Borelias, when the battle-scarred and stripped-down warship rammed a YV worldship, destroying it.

No shit, REALLY?
I have the X-wing series, I know all about the SHIP. I'm asking about the NAME. Does the name have any backstory, or did Palpy just pull it out of his ass?

In story there appers to be no particular reason for naming it as such.

A lot of people haven't and detest the EU, and you weren't completely clear. I was trying to help you. Don't be such a prick.

Stackpole picked as a real world ref, nothing more.
