Ms Traviss redeems herself (spoilers, LotF:Revelation)

Big ol' spoilers below...

So, Pellaeon (finally) dies. In Revelation. How, you ask? Old age?

Nope. He gets shot. In the back. By a schizophrenic barefoot blonde Vong-Tusken-Jedi bimbo.

Also, did you hear the one about Daala materializing out of nowhere, kidnapping Pelly's corpse, and running away with it to join the Mandalorians?

Yeah, I hear it was pretty great.

In other news, the Moffs of the Remnant allied with the ex-Jacester against the fishwoman in their recent lover's tiff, but I'm sure Soontir and Jaina'll straighten them out.

I have no idea what any of that even means. Also, I don't like All-Caps thread titles.

I thought it was a book where "she" finally admits that 3 million clones and hundreds of millions of droids is stupid.

But, its not?

Good Lord that witch can't write.

How the fuck is this Traviss "Redeeming" herself? It just sounds like a steaming pile of shit to me, and just because a steaming pile of shit is better than what Traviss usually writes, it does not qualify as "redemption."

I'm guessing he's being sarcastic.

Is that true? If so, that was the worst steaming pile of crap I've ever heard.

EDIT: I can't believe it, but it's true. Traviss should never have gotten anywhere near the EU.

I fucking told you all that Daala would return.

That's not redemption. That's sinking even deeper than she already is.

There are two ways KT can start redeeming herself (well, there are more, but expecting her to change her stance on the numbers issue is pretty hopeless, so I won't consider it). But she can either

a) kill off Boba Fett and have him stay dead, or
b) have her pet clone who had gotten a Jedi pregnant blow her brains out when he gets Order 66.

I really hope it's not true, especially the Daala bit. If it is... and here I thought Jaina the Mandalorian was the worst thing to worry about.

How deep is this hole that she's dug herself, now? I mean, this is getting ridiculous.

...Tahiri?

Fuck. Daala's back. I don't think anyone can deny that the EU is total shit now.

Yes, that's her.

In my opinion at least, the EU is now dead. It had been dying for a while, but Traviss is the most prominent figure in killing it.

Well fuck. I kinda liked Tahiri. :(

True, but Daala hasn't ever been in anything worthwhile, so her reappearance is a proof of an appalling dearth of creativity.

This doesn't come as any surprise, though, not in terms of quality. Ever since the end of the Bantam Era EU novels, the authors have strived to write, let us say more realistic novels and apparently they have confused grim apathy and constant state of decay and corruption as realism. They have taken the heroism, optimism and positive character growth away to make room for sheer angst, pseudo-nihilism, over-worked grittyism and glorification of a violent, oppressive and aggressive warrior caste culture.

While this tendency isn't that apparent in Clone Wars era, it is still there (Quinlan Vos being a poster boy for angst and UNrealistic grittiness).

While I don't find character death to be a major headache (everyone dies, after all), there should be some rhyme and reason to it; so far it appears that ONLY rhyme and reason to Pellaeon's death is "let us show how terrible bastards the Jedi are!". It tops General Madine's death (at least he died performing his duty, even though it was a futile death) and Admiral Ackbar's death (although he was old already, but it did lack some sense of depth since it came out of blue).

I'm not at all surprised, then, that it is the product of one Karen Traviss. Mark my words, and mark them well: we shall yet see how Daala absolutely adores the brave and mighty Mandalorians and how she has found a new lover among them to replace the (figuratively speaking) rotting corpse of a late Grand Moff.

No, no, I'm totally serious.

Well, maybe not serious-serious. I'm still fighting off fits of giggling. But I do mean it when I say Ms Traviss is now vindicated as an author. Heck, LotF is vindicated as a series. The mandies can take over the entire galaxy and purge the Jedi and it would still be a net gain.

I mean, guys. COME ON. Daala corpsenaps Pellaeon and runs away with him. Even in death, he's in retreat! XD

It really doesn't get much better than this.

And once again the post Swarm Nest 'Don't ever buy ANY fucking SW books EVER AGAIN, save the money for a high class hooker' plan continues to gain in strength....

I love how this trainwreck is set to end.

"We're the good Empire! Yay Mandalorians!"

"We're the bad Empire! Yay pseudo-Sith Lord!"

"We're the movie characters. What the fuck are we doing here again? I'm old."

No, none of us saw this type of shit coming. Traviss is a GOOD writer! Its you Talifans that berate her because she's a woman!

You want to know what's funnier? Going to the TFN boards, and watching these fucking idiots called "Star Wars fans" struggle to accept all this and spin it into a good thing.

Seriously, if Leia violated Han with a pink strapon while wearing a Chewie mask, these fucking idiots would find some way to accept it, because its official. See, they're the REAL Star Wars fans.

I feel bad for what is going to happen to Pelly's corpse (Peellaeon?).

Well, I would feel bad for Pelly's corpse, if I still cared for this shit DelRay is pumping out.

I was at Forbidden Planet looking to see if they received any new Doctor Who stuff and I went to the paperback aisle and I read the back of Allegiance which basically said, 'Renegade stormtroopers will shake the foundation of the Empire!"

Fuck you and that image, Wayne  .

And many of the TFN zombies are all in a tizzy because they are trying to reconcile that they hated KJA and many of the earlier works and she's outdoing them.

But as for no one seeing this? It is more like the limbo song "How can you go?". This caught people offguard because many knew she was a fucking hack but never guessed this low. She really wants us to place as KJA was a good and competent writer and the Crystal Star is masterpiece compared to her drivel so far.

That may have been one of the funniest things this author has seen this year.

Incidentally, Tiriol is quite right. Notice how radically the death rate of significant characters has changed in the Del Rey novels, and the wanton abandon with which they trample the established setting. It takes a great deal of wretchedness to make this author stop reading, but Del Rey accomplished this sometime early in the New Jedi Order -- which may well be regarded as the high water mark of their license. This is not sarcasm.
