Maybe, maybe not. It may be like how we refer to blacks as Africans and oreintal as Asian. IE naming them by their place of origin. Such as the Naboo, or Coruscanti? Just MHO.

Why would they distinguish between sub-race? Aren't there enough aliens?

Indeed. Why waste your time categorizing people based on superficial difference when you can just call them human and be done with it?

Hey i've been wondering.....we humans on Earth have diff. color b/c of the environment we live in.
Wouldn't it be safe to say that human populated planets have a variety of color humans also instead of say....just white for Correllians?

Humans have different color because of vitamin d deficiencies or excesses. You see, Vitamin D is formed by irradiation of sterols by UV, so pigmentation determines the amount of UV that penetrates the skin and makes vitamin D. Too little and you get rickets, too much and you are poisoned to death. In more equatorial regions where sunlight is intense, the likelihood of Vitamin D poisoning is increased so dark skin is good (africa, india, mexico), but in higher altitudes where sunlight is very weak, light skin permits more UV and thus more Vitamin D (northern europeans, inuits/eskimos).

You can see clearly that environment plays a major roll in color. It also plays a roll in shape. People who live at more norther latitudes, like the Inuit, are shorter and stockier then people that live at lower latitudes because short stocky people retain body heat better.

The same forces would also shape species in SW. For instance, a planet closer to its sun (assuming Sol like conditions) would result in a species with much darker skin then earth. A planet farther would result in a short pale species. Theres lots of other things, too, that come into play, like gravity. Its actually unlikely for humans to be so uniform, given the long history of space travel, and the variety of planets. Genetic engineering and evolution would quickly produce many subspecies.

I doubt the Empire has Christianity to cause the view that skin color = race. Its common knowledge that the romans and greeks and egyptians etc had no concept of race and only after the rise of african colonization by rabid christians did "race" come into the vocabulary (as a justification for slavery) noone until then felt the need to enslave any one group of people. infact, a vast majority of slavery was done based on who lost battles, irregardless of "race". it'd be as if the brits enslaved the spaniards, or whatever.

How varried is the climate of Corelia, anyway?

Asking since, personally, I think that's where SW Humans probably originated (besides on Earth...)

yeah. even with no axial tilt the climate would be very varied. you wouldnt have seasons, but polar cold water and equatorial warm water would affect the atmosphere and make for varying climates and shit. but atleast it would be paradise all year round. :)

Actually I don't believe they have ever mentioned where Lando comes from(I may be mistaken...but all I remember is that Lando is an old friend).

No. He's never been connected to the place. There's never been so much as a hint to suggest he's Corellian.

There's also definitions between the Nikto races, the Tiss'sharl races, and such.

While I'd think it wolud be great if there were no real definitons to differentiate between human races, I'd be surpirsed if there wern't any in Star Wars.

For all we know they could use terms like black, white, yellow, red, etc... and lacking any kind of racist connotation.

I have never in SW seen or heard any distinction between humans other than their homeworld. Lando Calrissian, Adi Gallia, Mace Windu comes to mind. I would say that skin colouration distinctions are unimportant when it comes to humans. Note however that there is at least one case of racial distinction, the Otolla and Ankura gungans. I wouldn't be surprised to find more examples of that as well.

On a side note, I personally belive Thrawn and Aurra Sing for example are evolved humans rather than alien species. It would be logical that variations on different planets created different species of humans over time, and it would explain the striking similarities. If they are truly different species or merely sub-species (can reproduce) is something we'll have to wait to find out I guess.

In a galaxy with millions of different humanoids i doubt ppl really can be bothered to give names to the so-called "Sub-species".

On a related note how come we never saw black Imperial officers?
