Well the point seems to be that it's the son of a crime boss that's kidnapped, so if they don't find him the mafia will take sides in the war. And I like that the Hutts are a "clan", rather than a species. I never liked the idea that every giant slug-guy was a gangster which the EU seems to push.

You know, I'm sure there will be minor things about it (aside from the artwork) that will be annoying, but watching it.. The battles look like they're going to be bloody awesome.

Edit: If this Clone Wars series is a hit, I hope they get more freedom to develop a new series that revolves around scoundrels and tramp freighter captains, instead of Jedi and clonetroopers.

That's apparantly the live-action series which Lucas talked about in a recent interview. Instead of 1930s serials, it's more based on 1940s film noir.

I think they used ILM cinematic technology in the actual animation program. The lightsabre-rotoscoping is nice.
