Site is down for me. What sort of fuckery is Lucas planning?

So does that mean we'll only have the special edition, or the super special edition?

Either way, its not going to remove Greedo's blaster burn on the wall of Mos Eisley cantina. What a world what a world where you can't shoot a guy pointing a gun at you unless he shoots first. What a world...

Was anyone honestly expecting Lucas to release the originals on DVD? This isn't a surprise, typical AICN alarmism aside.

Any DVDs of the OT I purchase will be bootlegs of the originals, and then the new ones just for the features.

I am of two minds about this. I'd like to have at least the original non-SE on DVD, but really, do we honestly expect Lucas to release a non special edition/ director's cut version of his own work? That's crazy. There's a reason I waited for the Fellowship Extended Edition.

On the other hand; it could be said that Lucas is in fact proving that he is not being a greedy bastard with his stingy DVD releasing policy; hell, if GL really wanted to, he could have released two or three different editions by now (and people would buy it), but it looks for all intents and purposes like he'll only be releasing one.

Not necessarily. During his presentation Lucas said this(I got this quote from The Force.net BTW):
1.NO Special Editions for the Prequels… but he also did not count out adding in footage that existed we haven’t seen. Example: The Duel Lightsaber fight between Yoda and Dooku.
Lucas may try and sucker fans into buying the prequels on DVD twice!

Well, as far as the prequels go, that's a little more reasonable. It looks to me like Lucas wants to put a lot of his effort into the final release of the DVDs and he it's clear that he didn't exactly have a lot of time to make a Special Edition of Episode II to release on DVD.

If Lucas ever does change something in Episode 2, it should be the score during the jedi arena battle thru the whole clone war sequence.
When they were scoring the rest of the film the sequence wasn't really that together so it was decided to just reuse music from the Phantom Menace.
Get John Williams to come in and write some new stuff.

Everytime I watch the film the music just irritates me. It's still very good quality, but it makes me think of hundreds of Jar-Jar frogmen marching into battle.:x

But, music is a relatively minor nitpick. :)

Bill Hunt's reaction over at The Digital Bits is, shall we say, a little tempermental.

Actually, it was like the textual version of throwing a hissy fit.

Almost has echos of Robert Brown, actually.

Jesus Christ, I cannot see how someone can get so pissed off about something that they'd literally give up on their fanship.

I read Hunt's temper tantrum too. Very unprofessional. It's not as if Lucas has scoured the original films from history.

I actually hope he gets a flood of letters over the weekend telling him what a fucking baby he's being over it.

I mean, yeah, it sucks, but you just have to deal with it. You don't make a fucking bastard out of yourself and possibly alienate readers.

Yeah, I'm not surprised, and I'm not really disappointed either. The Special Editions are perfectly valid, and though there are two things I can think of in them that I'd like changed back (Greedo shoots first and Luke screaming like a pussy when he pulls his attempted suicide), the SEs are overall much better than the originals.

And of course we would all buy both the SE and the OT on DVD, but most people would only buy one version. I don't think that releasing both would be wise from a business point of view.
And anybody who thinks that Lucas shouldn't be thinking about Star Wars from a business point of view is an ass.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

*ahem* All George has done with Eps. 1&2 is think about money. He put in Jar Jar for kids. He put in the excess romance for chicks (which I really wish he hadn't). What kind of fuckup will he do with Ep. 3?

George may "say" he's not doing it for the money, but from the way it's coming out, he is. And I can't believe anything Ain't it Cool says after that gawdawful script of Superman they put on the web and said was THE script for the new movie.

They had an interview or official comment or something on TF.net over half a year ago saying that Lucas would not include the original releases on the DVD release of the OT.

This is nothing new.

Yeah, to throw such a hissy fit over it now after it was obvious for years is just pathetic.

I'd like to see hiim do something like the T2:Ultimate Edition. Simply include both additions using branching. That way you could actually watch both.

Of course he'll never do that but a guy can hope.

Yes, the Extreme Edition. Doesn't really matter so much to me, since I never got around to getting T2 on DVD yet.
