Simple question. Does Darth Vader ever get a clue and figure out that Palpatine played him like a 2 dollar flute?

It's been a while since I read Dark Lord, so I don't remember any specifics about that book. However, in RotJ Vader does apparently realize that there are things more important than Palpatine.

Probably not entirely, but I'd be willing to say that he regretted his involvement with the empire at the end of it all.

Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader specifically mentions that Vader knew very well that Lord Sidious was, at some level, lying to him and that it was him that was responsible for the whole Clone Wars; and later on he also recognizes that Palpatine delibarately makes him run some fool's errands. Vader isn't stupid, after all.

It would be hard for him not to after so long. He's not stupid by any rate (deluded, yeah, no doubt), and he has to have some apparent skill in scheming since he's survived among the Empire's upper echelons for so long. He's
certainly aware of what some of the Palpatine's methods involve and how they're carried out, so with all that time he's had a chance to see where his place among them might be.
Everthing Vader has done has been from the result of his own misguided goals which Palpatine helped Vader realize had some chance of success through his position and powers. Vader just went along for the ride, buying what was offered, because he wanted it deep down.
