My friends saw that and are carving their like it, and then smashing another pumpkin in front of it, so they have the Death Star and Alderaan.

I've always wanted to try to do this.

That must have taken quite a while to make.
But it's awesome.
Makes me want to make one myself.

But does it have a cherry bomb accessable exhaust port?

It's not as powerful as it looks. It probably causes some chain reaction inside of other pumpkins and squashes, and that's how it destroys them.

That's just fucking awesome.
My hat is off to whoever put that much dedication into carving a pumpkin.

Jesus H Christ, how long to carve that?
Very cool though, major envy

So where are the plans for this pumpkin? I hope not too many Bothans died in bringing them to us.
I shouldn't complain, but I would have liked the pumpkin to be a little flatter. My mom did say I was a little OCD, though.

Well, those other pumpkins don't have pumpkinary shields.
Looking at it some more, it looks almost as if it was scraped and not actually carved. Interesting.

I suspect that the bulk of the time was in hollowing out the interior. This carving job relies upon the shell of the pumpkin being thin enough for light to shine through quite brightly if you remove the skin. The person must have spent hours just carefully carving out the interior so that he could get a fairly uniform wall thickness.
This is what it looks like unlit:

How long did it take? Maybe not too horribly long. If the guy who made it had the right equipment, he could have easily designed it in a CAD program and made the machines do most of the work for him. Even if he did that, it's damn awesome.

Doing it in CAD wouldn't have saved much time, if any. Even with a high-end multi-axis milling machine, you'd have to use several setups to cut the entire surface, and you would need to scan the surface into a cloud of digital data points in order to make a model that's good enough for consistent-depth cuts. Then you would need to design the cuts in CAD and project them onto this point-cloud surface. You would also need to do some fancy stuff with a pretty high-end machine that has an auto-rotating head in order to hollow out the interior, and you still wouldn't get it all, so there would be a lot of hand work left over at the end.
CAD/CAM ain't magic, you know.

Don't try and frighten us with your sorcerous ways, your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen pumpkin pie recipies. Or given you clairvoyance enough to locate the Rebel's Hidden Bakery...

It took the guy about 6 hours, on his second try. When you think about it, it isn't very complex. He divided the pumpkin into grid-squares, and then custom-trimmed each one into the desired shape using straight lines. Each 'square' can be done individually, and then he finishes it off with some light-brite and a superlaser. Next year, Halloween is on a Saturday, and I know what I'm going to be doing.

Splicing in that image for Episode 4 and unleashing a Halloween themed Star Wars movie?

I wonder how the Vong would react to a Pumpkin that can destroy planets?
