Force in the Galaxy
This has been bothering me for quite a while. How much weight does Yoda's comment of "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be" really carry? I mean, it's Yoda, the person who probably knew of all the Jedi who left. But at the same time, he can't be expected to know of everything.
Then, I suppose I have to wonder about the presence of the Force in the Star Wars galaxy overall. It's clear from all EU material that the Jedi and Sith are not the only Force users in the galaxy, but from a canon perspective, they are. Otherwise, Anakin was nothing more than a powerful Force user, rather than the one who put the Force back into balance.
Grr...sometimes I *REALLY* hate the EU.

The gift of Superman is the same in his universe as ours. It's not about his powers, his costume, his persona, it's about the using the gifts he has to help people. We all have gifts too, maybe we can't leap tall buildings in a single bound, but maybe we're good with math, maybe we're charming. We can use our gifts -whatever they are- to help people. We just need to make that choice. And Superman shows us that it's possible.
Re: Force in the Galaxy
Why? Nothing was violated. Yoda said last of the JEDI, not Force users. As Mara Jade pointed out, Yoda didn't include Vader and the Emperor when he made that comment.ReinnResauq wrote:Grr...sometimes I *REALLY* hate the EU.

Vader and the Emporer weren't 'Jedi' they were Sith for all intents and purposes. In fact, I don't think Palpatine was ever a Jedi.Lord Poe wrote:Why? Nothing was violated. I do agree with your interpretation of Yoda's statement. He said last of the Jedi. However, how many Jedi have been encountered in the New Republic era? Luke should have been the only one.
The Force users part comes from the concept of Anakin bringing balance to the Force, which by the start of ANH, he had. There were two users of the light side and two users of the dark side.
And this was in the OT section because I had originally intended for it to be a gaming question.

He was, actually. C'Baoth was a clone of a Jedi. Kam Soul-whatever renounced his Jedi heritage, others, like the guy in Children of the Jedi weren't true Jedi. Remember, for all the abilities Luke had, he WASN'T a Jedi until he confronted Vader.ReinnResauq wrote: I do agree with your interpretation of Yoda's statement. He said last of the Jedi. Er... well some believe Luke brought balance to the Force. Anakin was his father after all, so the prophecy was right...from a certain point of view. The Force users part comes from the concept of Anakin bringing balance to the Force, which by the start of ANH, he had. I don't see how, though. Luke didn't balance anything...unless you were to take Bob Brown's understanding and say that Luke simply rebooted a system that had become corrupted by allowing anyone with an attunement to the Force to become a Jedi.Lord Poe wrote:Er... well some believe Luke brought balance to the Force. Why does Anakin have to be the member of a religious sect to perform a duty to the Force?ReinnResauq wrote:Otherwise, Anakin was nothing more than a powerful Force user, rather than the one who put the Force back into balance.
Grr...sometimes I *REALLY* hate the EU.
Whether the Jedi were the only force users or not has no relevancy as to whether Anakin was charged by the will of the Force with a destiny.
And I *REALLY* hate it when fans whine and bitch when their personal interpretations of vague prophecies of in-universe (and thus falliable) religious sects do not pan out. What a crock of shit.ReinnResauq wrote:I do agree with your interpretation of Yoda's statement. He said last of the Jedi. However, how many Jedi have been encountered in the New Republic era? Just wait until Episode III when the prophecy is clarified before bitching and blaming it on the EU when its just your own narrow-minded assumptions, Jesus Christ.
