Your favourite SW weapon, and why?

Your favourite SW weapon, and why?
I was thinking about different guns in movies, TV, games, real life, and Sci Fi today, and I wanted to ask this question: pardoning the lightsaber, what's your favourite small-arm or handheld weapon in Star Wars, and why do you like it? (The movies of course count, but I don't stop there, video games, comic books, cross sections, shows, manuals, or the Expanded Universe all count, to me, at least.)
My favourite probably goes to Chewbacca's Bowcaster, for a number of reasons; it doesn't need to involve 'supar fizzicks,' the principle behind the way it works (ie: "it uses electromagnets to launch projectiles that blow up when they hit" is way easier for me to believe than anything that strings the words "quantum" and "phase" and "pulse" together...) is pretty simple and familiar, and while it's easy to recognize as a super-duper sci-fi weapon, it has the features of a crossbow that make it stand apart and look distinctive. And of course, like the other weapons in Star Wars, it has none of this shiny sci-fi glowy stuff that goes out of its way to try to look fancy, but it still looks fancy without them and it has a very clean, utilitarian, functional appearance. I like that because it stands out and I think its unusual appearance adds character to the gun itself.
What's yours?

Plasma Assault Cannon from the original Dark Forces computer game. Hard hitting single shot and a massively powerful rocket. OWIC(?) for SWs

Wow, you actually think the bowcaster isn't just a crazy blaster? Next you'll say it fires three green blobs at 45 degree angles!
I think all the invented weapons for the games/novels are all lame. My favourite is probably the Clone Commando SMG from the Clone Wars cartoon; rapid fire, one-handed blaster. Comes with 2 free 'dramatic posing' sessions.

The blaster. An inelegant weapon, for a more brutish age.

The 200 gigaton turbolaser because of the effect it had on the Trekkies.

The concussion rifle from Jedi Outcast. Sniping your enemies at long range is fun.
Movie-wise, tie between the DL-44 and the E-11. Ergonomic AND powerful.

That's true. But since nobody here believes I'm actually Batman to begin with prefacing every post where I say something comics Me likely wouldn't by saying ' if I weren't actually Batman' seemed moderately pointless.

Han Solo's/ Luke Skywalker's DL-44 from the original trilogy is the gold standard in awesome. It's a wicked looking blaster pistol.
Runner up is the DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle - it looks great, just like a modified German MG34 should.

If I could go again, I'd pick the ERRANT VENTURE.
Re: Your favourite SW weapon, and why?
I was looking at it from an out-of-universe perspective, not on how it performs in video game, so probably not.Stark wrote:Wow, you actually think the bowcaster isn't just a crazy blaster? Next you'll say it fires three green blobs at 45 degree angles!
Hah, isn't that everyone's? I like the lightsaber too, because I like seeing that elabourate fight choreography and the stunts, but there are lots of others that I felt deserved some attention as well, and I was curious as to what caught other peoples' eyes.havokeff wrote: LIGHTSABER

So, like in the movies where it's just a blaster with so bow limbs on it, then?Davey wrote:I was looking at it from an out-of-universe perspective, not on how it performs in video game, so probably not.
I wonder if the other Clone Wars cartoon guns have proper designations; their LMG varient is pretty cool too and it appears to be a modified Clone rifle (the AOTC hugeass ones) capable of full-auto. ALMOST as cool as the MG42-based ones from ANH.

Yeah, but I thought the bow limbs looked pretty badass and distinctive.Stark wrote:So, like in the movies where it's just a blaster with so bow limbs on it, then?

I'll take a blaster thank you very much.
For pistols, it's han's DL-44 special
For rifles, i'm actually more partial to the Alliance's BlasTech A-280

Han's DL-44 looks to be winning by a mile. Plus, it's a short-barreled, scoped C96 Mauser, the first successful semi-automatic pistol built.
I don't like the Stormies' blasters from ANH, TESB, ROTJ. They're modeled after Stens, and I just don't like Stens.
Runner-up for me would be one of the Falcon's quad blasters.
EDIT: Oops just read the OP again - I can't carry a quad turret! Damn - gotta hit the gym.
My NEW runner-up is the Kell MKII heavy rifle from Han Solo and the Lost Legacy. Man-portable and capable of taking out a Wars combat shuttle? I'll take two! What's the waiting period?

The E-Web is my favourite SW weapon by far. That thing just looks badass.
Most of the other SW guns look like real guns with bits glued on, but the E-Web is 'holy fuck, a portable death ray'.
And yes it counts as a small arm. For trained rancors.

Re: Your favourite SW weapon, and why?
I have to question the 'man portable' status of that thing- looking at the image there I had forgotten how big the E-web was.
I keep thinking of it as an M2HB equivalent or light autocannon, but it's not, it's closer to light artillery- I don't think it counts as a smallarm any more.
DC-15 Clone War era long rifle for me. Reach, hitting power, a sort of brutalist style. DL-44 for close quarters and cool factor maybe.

The handheld guns in Star Wars really weren't all that distinctive. They looked a bit different if you paused the movie and zoomed in, but they all basically just shot glowy things that went boom.

They were built upon Sterling SMG's, actually, some retaining the full-automatic action in order to fire blanks.Count Chocula wrote:I don't like the Stormies' blasters from ANH, TESB, ROTJ. They're modeled after Stens, and I just don't like Stens.
And one of my favorites would probably be the clonetrooper rifle. Nice gun, and it's definitely powerful... 20 kilometres range anybody?
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
Re: Your favourite SW weapon, and why?
The E-Web is definitely man-portable - broken down into maybe three pieces, of course, but there's no other way they could've brought it with them into the base and set it up in seconds, after all.
