SW History/Timeline Project

I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute to a historical outline/technological development of the SW civilization.

Particular areas of note:

Hyperspace Aliens.

FTL travel in the pre-hyperdrive era.

The Sith Wars.

Limitations/speed of hyperdrive in the Republic from its founding until the Great Hyperspace War. How slow or finicky would the hyperdrive need to be so that two significant interstellar powers could be unaware of each other for 1000s of years, yet apon discovery, be able to conduct invasions into one another? How does this affect early estimates of Republic size/location in galaxy/etc.

The Republic/Ruusan Reformation 1000 years before ANH and its affect on the Jedi Order and on the Republic.

EU/Continuity Gurus most appreciated.

I'll help. Are you looking for conflict resolution suggestions as well? (IE the coruscant/corellia hyperdrive, the Origins of the sith, etc)

Yes.

The Great Hyperspace War issue is something curiously I've seen no one address....as hyperdrive cannot be the same it is in the movies if there are two civilizations out of contact for thousands of years inside the galaxy.

Also despite that, once they do find each other their fleets are capable of supporting invasions of one another easily.

Reconcilement has been needed here for some time. I've thought about emailing Saxton about it, but he is a busy man.

Great Hyperspace War? Where is this mentioned?

5,000 Years Before the Battle of Yavin.

The Sith Empire and the Ancient Republic become embroiled in a war that brings the Jedi and the Sith against each other for the first time.

Check the Stickified-thread, Star Wars Reference Sources. Check out TimeTales (link at bottom of thread) for more information.

I could possibly help a little with the Hyperspace Aliens thing.

But I haven't read the Corellian Trilogy, though.

Up-age.

First topic: Technology in the 25,000-5,000 year period.

You do realize a civilization of SW level technology (around phase II or III easily) is giving off enough radiation and energy due to their enormous technology and energy consumption to be easily detectable as they hop around mapping stars in their hyperroutes, right? If it has been up for several tens of thousands of years, that means they should be readily detectable within ten thousand light-years of their territory.

We're talking ships that use power on the level of some stars. That has go somewhere.

Evidently mass-producing probes to send to nearly every system with a concievable possibility of having a rebel base (thus even more systems then have terrestrial worlds) is within the capability of the single corporation that ran the droid world of Mechis III to produce. How else do you think hyperspace mapping was done?

Astronomers have speculated that Von Neumann probes using sublight interstellar travel could explore and catalog the galaxy within a six hundred thousand years if I'm unmistaken. The Republic has practical FTL travel and their successor found it simple for a single corporation to make probe droids to scour the entire galaxy. You figure the rest out.

Moreover, the Sith Empire should be exploring and expanding to inhabited worlds all over just like the Republic. You think one of their probes would've run into the other by now.

Also, SW powers utilize similar things such as stellar remnants and other exotic energy sources. These are not extraordinarily countless...one would think they've tried to nab the same energy source at one time or another.

That is if their hyperdrives can stretch across the galaxy in hours like in the OT as you suggest.

Even more importantly, this Empire is fucking crawling with Sith Lords. Some of the ships of the Republic have Jedi on them. If they're magically cruising through Sith territory constantly, you think one of them would've noticed by now.

I'll ask you which is more likely:

Since none of the Great Hyperspace War sources show that the hyperdrives must be equivalent more or less to modern ones....would you assume a) the Sith Empire and Republic have just magically bumped around w/ FTL and extremely advanced telepathic/life-sensing abilities for thousands of years...even overlapping each other, or b) their comparitively primitive. hyperdrives limited their exploration and colonization range.
Any educated theories on what made hyperdrive not as good/faster/harder to navigate thus keeping these two civilizations seperate?

Does anyone know the storyline from the new SW game, Knights of the Old Republic? Wasn't it set some 5000 years before the movies :?:

That story is sometime after the First Sith War and the subsequent Mandalorian Wars. It takes place a little less than 4,000 years before ANH.

reactor tech/efficiency?

Perhaps they had the speed but not the range, and were slow to make fuel supply lines until it was time for war.
