He had some burns to his shoulder and thigh, even nowadays we wouldn't need to amputate them. With bacta, even less so.

It's been a while since I watched AOTC so I would need to watch the fight scene again to be sure. However, I think the effects would have to so a lot with how much force is behind the stroke. I don't think a lightsabre would just "eat" through a limb with a relatively light touch. A razor won't cut your skin just from resting on it, the razor must be moved in a way so that it will cut. As I remember from ESB and AOTC, the strokes that actually cut something off (Luke's hand, Anakin's arm) were deliberate strokes, nothing accidental.

Giving that he suffered only soft blows and had burns, I think not. A lightsaber doesn’t have very much of an area effect. So unless you deliberately move it through an area it's going to be undamaged.

Dooku was just moving to disable/incapacitate obi-wan, as the blows to his saber and his leg were deliberately shallow.

Just like he didn't kill Anakin when he could have.

Dooku wanted to escape, not kill. He dropped the pillar so that Yoda would be distracted long enough for him to do the bolt.

Wasn't Dooku about to land a killing blow on Obi-wan before Anakin got back up and saved him?

That was my impression. I think Obi-Wan was mostly out of commission already.

No.

First he wanted to finish off Obi-wan. Anakin saved his master so Dooku decided to give him a lesson in sword fighting.
When he realized he can't beat Yoda, he pushed the pillar onto the two wounded jedis to distract him.

The hits against Obi-Wan were deliberately just disabling shots...Dooku was toying with him, he would have most likely struck a killing blow a moment later if Anikan hadnt offered himself up for a total kicking.
I wouldn't exactly call it a lesson in swordfighting....Dooku's style is the worst one demonstrated in all of SW's (though I do have huge respect for Lee for managing any sort of action stuff at his age).

Obi Wan was just burned, its like beeing cut by a knife or sword. Dooku did just enough damage to cause a signifcant amount of pain that maid Obi Wan drop his lightsaber and become helpless. It would have had the same effect that Darth Vader would have gotten when Luke scorched his shoulder in Empire. Darth Vader had the shoulder guard so he didnt get burned.

I also think that Dooku might have been given instructions to try and draw out the "best" in Anakin, hence him toying with obi-wan until Anakin was in fighting form again.

Dooku's style worst? How so? Just wondering.

He was almost fencing, and not doing it well either. It wasn't sword fighting, it wasn't lightsaber fighting, it was all flash for the cameras.

But Christopher Lee still said that they were some of the most fun swordfights he'd done.

I'd actually nominate Anakins double sword technique as the worst. It just screams: "cut me in half at the waist - I have no chance of blocking that".

Its mostly "west point" sabre style...one that is taught to people with guns for a very good reason....using it if you only have a sword against someone else with a sword is likely to be very bad for you.

There is a little from traditional fencing blended in.....but the only way I could envisage fights going well using such styles (which scream, please hack my legs off...) is with a hell of a lot of precog...which when it comes to sword play can cover a multitude of sins....

I'd say anikan does take runners up place for his "I'm a morris dancer on crack" approach....big on flashy spinniness...low on much as regards attacking and defending.....

That would fit Anakin's character though.
