Best Rebel Alliance/New Republic Capital ships

Although the Mon Cal cruisers were among the most visible of the capital ships used by the Rebel Alliance and nascent New Republic, various other less famous designs were used as well. What would be considered the best Capital ships designs used by the Rebel Alliance/New Republic larger than 500 meters in length?

Ships used by the Rebellion or ships designed/constructed by the Rebellion?
For the latter, bigger is better. The Home One type command ship is my pick based on my admittedly limited knowledge of Rebel Capital ships.
For the former, you can't beat the good old Imperator (the Rebels did use some captured ones, right?), though for purely visual reasons I love the Nebulon B. Frigate.

Which sources are we including here?

WRT the OP, it's both used and/or built by the Rebels/New Republic, and they did indeed capture several Imperators too.
Which sources are we including here?
Regarding sources, it's any official works (EU or higher level) such as the films, novels, games, etc.

The MC90 design seems pretty solid; it's basically a MonCal cruiser that's been cleaned up, standardised, modernised and build to proper military specs;
Though I always liked the overall shape of the Liberty-type (winged MC80) cruisers. The
most powerful design would undoubtedly be the
Viscount class, even if it is a huge ugly lump compared to the deadly elegance of an Executor.

Well if we're including GAMES I nominate the Dauntless class cruiser. She could eat any ISD I/II for breakfast AND managed to look damned sexy.

If those were the rules, I would vote for an
Executor . . .

I dunno. Counting captured Imperial ships kinda defeats the purpose. Even though the Rebels/NR did use captured ships, they're still Imperial designs, associated with the Empire.

A converted liner. Quite unlikely that outside game balance reasons, she would be as powerful.
That said, the mediator class battle cruiser is my favorite. Strong, large and not ugly.

As the OP clarified, yes. But since Rommie was talking specifically about captured ships, I marvelled at him picking a mere
Imperial-I over a Super Star Destroyer.
On the other hand, I seem to recall references to the NR building Star Destroyers of its own. Is my mind playing tricks on me, or would anyone else know anything about that?

The NR designed the
Republic-class star destroyer and the
Nebula-class star destroyer.

They built the
Nebula class SDs.

Ah, right, those God-awful WEG designs. Sorry for wasting bandwidth, then.

They weren't exactly WEG designs.

Yes they were. Kube-McDowell may have written about them first, but WEG gave us their actual numbers and designs.

It was Kube-McDowell who wrote quite a bit of it, and WEG fluffed it up. Kube-McDowell used to have a website with some details on all the ships in the fleet. I wonder whether it still exists.
Found it:

On that page, at least, he lists only types and lengths. The actual (craptastic) designs come from Cracken's Threat Dossier. According to Wookiee they even contradict his descriptions directly (it was a number of years since I looked through the Black Fleet books, so I cannot confirm that at the moment).

They certainly do by the NJO period at least. Fondor shipyard is described as having two star destroyers nearly finished when it ws destroyed in
Jedi Eclipse, although I can't recall if their class was mentioned.
However, In Star By Star The
Mon Monthma and
Elegos A'Kla were explicitly stated to be new built star destroyers based on the
Imperial Class

I'm not a huge fan of the Executor design. Its not bad, and its unquestionably more powerful than an Imperator of course, but for its size I consider the Imperator to be a superior design.
Now if the Rebels had ever had an Eclipse Class, on the other hand...

MC90 and Nebula class SDs.
By volume MC90s and Nebulas were much more powerful than ISDs.

Geez, are those insignia big enough.

Looking at that bridge tower, isn't that one of the five-mile long ships, or is it explicitly said to be of the Executor class and just assumed to be bad art?

It depicts the Lusankya, explicitly identified as the sister-ship of ISD Executor.

The biggest NR-built ship is the 17 km-long
Viscount-class Star Defender, which was the Mon Cal equivalent of the
Executor. It was mentioned in some post-ROTJ novels, and finally given a full depiction just a few years ago on a Wizards of the Coast page (unfortunately defunct).
It was a nice bitchslap to the minimalists, as well as an in-universe rejection of those godawful Black Fleet Crisis ships.

I gotta go with the
Liberty class. It was my favorite of the big ships way back when, and still looks nice to me now.

What the hell is up with the tower on that thing?
it's like the artist just wasn't sure when to quit and just kept going.
