They are supposedly going to show up in the Clone Wars shorts.

What do you guys think? They seem a little over the top to me.

Is that a Fett-style viewfinder I see?

What the hell is an ARC trooper?

Wait, is that the trooper's leg? Jesus, it's the size of that Jedi's freaking torso!!

Some kind of elite clone commando group. They've appeared in the Star Wars Republic comic series.

I noticed that too. But WTF kind of blaster is he holding?

He's wearing Gaunts too. Not the same kind, but definetly different than normal.

I like the idea of elite clonetroopers. Probably even more genetically modified than regulars.

That would make sense. Especially considering, as Spanky noted, this guy is freaking huge. remember, Anakin's pretty tall (Hayden Christensen is 6'1"), and even though he's sort of crouching in that picture, it's clear that the trooper dwarfs him.

Looks like the Clones have been eating their Wheaties.

But now the question is, why aren't all Clonetroopers like this? No reason to make the majority less than they could be.

Actually, the beefiness and sheer size of these guys is what I object to. For modern soldiery (and by extension- SW infantry) there's absolutely no need for such a hulking mass of bulk and muscle. It's a liability, not an advantage- we're not wielding claymores on the battlefield.

The obvious answer is: cuz they look kewl (or words to that effect).

On the other hand, if one assumes that there is an actual good reason for their bulk, then there is another possible justification: the ability to wear armor thicker and carry weapons heavier than normal clonetroopers. If used as assault infantry, they might actually be able to wear enough armor to be able to individually tackle opponents such as shielded droideka. Either the trooper's oversized gun blasts down the droid's shields and penetrates its armor, or the trooper's armor shrugs off the droideka's blasts and the trooper stomps through the droid's shield and pulls the mechanical beast apart.

Also, in close assault against normal organic troops in the human size range, as many Star Wars aliens appear to be, superior size and strength combined with armor able to shrug off most blaster small arms fire would be potentially dangerous. Smart troops will, of course, use emplaced support weapons, satchel charges and assorted booby traps to eliminate those advantages.

Hopefully one that can turn modern tanks into rapidly expanding slag.

They may be circumstances in which it helps, they may be emulating the warhammer 40k motto.

Think of them as some form of proto-spacemarine, a huge hulking armored warmachine with heavy weaponry thats pretty much immune to most small arms fire that easily clears row after row of attacking soliders.
They ought to have power-ops :P lightsabers too :D

In true comic book style, that armor looks more form-fitting than normal trooper armor...I wonder how it manages to be stronger, if it is indeed.

Now that would freaking kick-ass to see.

The blaster looks like like a rifle version of Solo's blaster pistol. The Trooper looks bad ass but a typical comic book wankfest.

Well, I have several points.

1.) It is a comic book. The trooper's size and form-fitting armor is likely an exaggeration.

2.) If you ask me he simply is a highly trained clonetrooper with additional genetic manipulation equipped with the Clone Wars-era predecessor to Dark Trooper power-armor/combat suit.

Maybe the Republics version of the Imperial Special Inteligence Commando's who where Stormies with extra training and better conceled armour.

I hope not, maybe the style of the armor, but otherwise, no, this is the first good example of genetic engineering for creating spacemarine like troopers we've seen in SW.

It's patently retarded HDS. You can put as big of a power armor for spacemarine use as you want on a bigger trooper. But a physically larger trooper is inefficient and neccessitates a larger armor for the same weapons and defense a smaller one would neccessitate.

Tell me: what fucking good is a bigger-than-standard over-muscular behemoth? What can they do with a power armor that normal troopers wouldn't do fine?

They can wear heavier and stronger armor(which can also be powered ofcourse, and the armor itself can contain more equipment and such) and more equipment, internally they can put, say more hearts and other genetically engineered custom organs and/or cybernetic enhanchments to create an elite fighting solider, very 40k'ish.
They can easily wield those large weapons wich I suspect can take out vehicles and infantry with ease.

Special Ops, they'd also be good as shocktroopers and close range fighting in crowded areas.
You can find interesting notes from the 40k universe on what one could do with soldiers like this.
