Yes, there are similarities. However, I think they're a bit inconsequential to be calling SW a blatant ripoff.

This seems to be a reaction to the SW bashing that a lot of people seem to be starting. Even Lucas admits that if SW is a rip of of anything it is karasaura (i'm sure i spelt that wrong) movies.
