Hi guys, I'm going to be writting a really big fanfic about the Empire vs the b5 galaxy, sparked my interest, when I started the Shadows vs Empire thread. What I need is some info that I'm not clear about, i've been doing these debates for years, but hey, not sure about everything,
QUESTIONS NEEDING TO BE ANSWERED:
Q: What is the stated power of LTL's, and HTL's
Q: What is the crew and droid compliment of stardestroyers
Q: What do TL's do to an unshielded Imperial ship
Q: What is your average cruising speed of tie fighters and stardestroyers
Q: What is the range of turbo lasers
Q: I believe imperial ships have visual sensors aswell, is this true?
Q: R2 units are they popular in the Imperial navy?
Q: How big is the Imperial "brains" section of the military, a few dozen scientists ? or thousands or millions scattered across the galaxy
thanks if you can answer, i want to make this a very accurate fan fic

Well I am not sure about most of those, but the effect of TL's on an unsheilded ship would really depend on what was firing on what.
Speed is useless in space, only acceleration matters.

Q: What is the stated power of LTL's, and HTL's
LTL's have a firepower of approx. 50GT. HTL's are closer to 15TT. Extrapolated from the Ep II ICS.
Q: What is the crew and droid compliment of stardestroyers
50,000 individuals, fully crewed. 2000 skeleton crew.
Q: What do TL's do to an unshielded Imperial ship
Melt bits of armour off.
Q: What is your average cruising speed of tie fighters and stardestroyers
Unknown.
Q: What is the range of turbo lasers
Usually 30,000 Km(Based off orbital bombardment)
Q: I believe imperial ships have visual sensors aswell, is this true?
Yes. Big windows.
Q: R2 units are they popular in the Imperial navy?
Somewhat. Mouse droids are more common.
Q: How big is the Imperial "brains" section of the military, a few dozen scientists ? or thousands or millions scattered across the galaxy
Millions across the galaxy in different installations.

most fighters wouldn't have the fuel to burn to get to .9, so thats why i was asking about average cruising speeds,
like if it hit the main part of a stardestroyer, along the hull,

I know by NJO it's fairly common to fight at speeds ranging from .1 to .9 of c.

Screw really accurate FanFic. What you want to make is good FanFic. I suggest looking at B5 firepowers here:
http://www.babtech-onthe.net
Then deciding how much disparity you can stand before you irrevocably turn your FanFic into a SDR style Tech Manual. Make a guess. If those numbers on that site are accurate (and it is apparently well-regarded,) then it'll be very challenging to use full Imperial capabilities while keeping the battles good.

You can have an accurate story, and still have it entertaining, brute force isn't the only thing out there, bad writters with no imagination maybe

I said it was challenging, not impossible.

Q: What is the stated power of LTL's, and HTL's
You really won't get an answer on this. We have the ICS numbers, but since no one has a clear capture of an Acclamator, we can't even scale the gun barrels to get a power/size conversion factor. Maybe once the DVD comes out, that will change. Check out my thread titled "Interesting" to see what I did to get total volley outputs though.
Q: What is the crew and droid compliment of stardestroyers
about 50,000 for an ISD. Depends on the class of Star Destroyer though.
Q: What do TL's do to an unshielded Imperial ship
Depends on the size of the ship and TL. HTLs can vaporize a trio of TIEs, as per Hero's Trial, TLs of unknown strength can liquify shielded xwings ( Bacta War ) and a full broadside can do anything from completely destroy another cap ship ( ROTJ Novel ), partially melt it ( I, Jedi ). Note that those last three examples were all shielded ships, as we rarely see a TL strike an unshielded ship.
Q: What is your average cruising speed of tie fighters and stardestroyers
They can run all the way up to C, where they cross into hyperspace as indicated by Star by Star and Rogue Squadron. And ICS along with ROTJ peg accel well into the thousands of gees. However, average cruising speed was said to be .4c for the Impstars on the old non-official blueprints.
Q: What is the range of turbo lasers
Highest recorded we have is about 8 AU from Rebel Stand[/b], though the hundred to thousands klick range is where they usually battle, as that prevents the enemy from just going to hyperspace before the bolt hits them.
Q: I believe imperial ships have visual sensors aswell, is this true?
We know for sure that starfighters have visual enhancers, it is likely the cap ships have them as well. Though frankly, it is more likley they would just feed the sensor data into a holoprojector and fill in the ship images with pics stored in memory.
Q: R2 units are they popular in the Imperial navy?
Somewhat, but not nerely as much as with the Rebels since TIEs don't need astromechs. Theyt use Mousedroids and repair droids moreso because they are cheaper.
Q: How big is the Imperial "brains" section of the military, a few dozen scientists ? or thousands or millions scattered across the galaxy
Pure Military R&D? Millions. Civilian R&D? Billions. Professors and academies across the galaxy? Trillions. While they aren't all pure military like you said, any military goes to the civillian sector if they have something it needs.

Actually, a really good, and really unconventional fan fic is possible. Hve the Imp Intellegence service be hunting down Morden as he tries to subvert Imperial Officers. You can use the Inquisition to fight Technomages and have a very nice cat and mouse game with a Dr. Moriarty style villian. Properly done, you would end up with a great spy novel fanfic that avoids the tech differential problems.

Along with Visual Sensors good enough to pick up a 30 or so Meter Long Freighter from the other side of the planet and make it look like it was twenty feet away (Ref TLC-Thrawn attacking Luke the second time)

That's an old insider joke. Shortly before my debate career, I read some awful FanFics like Portal or many of those from FanFix.com. I got annoyed. So I decided to write a counter. Its emphasis was to use what were the newest justified calcs of the time, with no real regard to plot, writing style (I wrote the chapters real fast.) The emphasis was almost all on rubbing the superiority of SW over ST into those Trekkies' noses. If the story actually engaged anyone because it was written well, it is an accident. A sign of how poor FanFix.com products can get is that the story was apparently rated middling there!
I made the mistake of posting it into ASVS. A few people saw the point. Most of them didn't. As a normal FanFic, it really stank (even by MY standards, and I wrote the thing,) but it was not meant to be a normal FanFic.

Most R2 style droids in the Empire are actually other models. For instance, there are many R2's that are used to coordinate turbolaser fire and security, or for minor maintenance purposes. For the most part, though, since TIE fighters are not hyperdrive capable and do not mount R2 units for maintenance, R2's are used far more often in Rebel installations and smaller planetary defense groups.

what sort of thing can repair droids do? can they go on the outter hull of stardestroyers? what sort of repairs can they do? just basic things?

Not to sound like a prick here, but what exactly is the point of writing a fanfic? I mean, it isn't official so I wouldnt ever read it and wouldn't get enjoyment out of it if it is no way true to the Star Wars universe.

Q: What do TL's do to an unshielded Imperial ship
In ROJ an unshielded ISD was destroyed by a single high-powered heavy TL bolt.

I guess the heavy repair work on Imperial ships, such as repairing hull breaches is made by ASP worker droids (we see one in ANH SE when Luke&Co hover with their landspeeder through the streets, its the humanoid looking droid which slaps the small observer).
The other work such as maintenance is likely to be conducted either by mouse droids, or by R2/R3/R4/R5 units for more complex tasks.

Why does it have to be official to be enjoyable?

Novelization, or movie. Because I believe I know which ISD in the movie you're talking about, and I have to point out that we have no idea as to the ship's status at that point. It's too far away to make out any details, and it could have been heavily damaged when the bolt struck. This is best displayed by the fact that it suffered an internal explosion, suggestive of reactor failure.

The movie ISD.
It is right, though, we don't know anything about it, but it didn't look like there was any significant structural damage.

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations man. A lot of people just write for the enjoyment of writing, some just see something that strikes them as needing a change in the original work.
Your definitely not a prick, different people enjoy different things, if they didn't we'd all be borg, and even if I wouldn't miss my free will if I no longer had it, it would still suck to be me if that happened.
Although some fanfic isn't untrue to the original, simply exploring new territory in the established universe.
