and i thought that i would get yelled for posting. Im tempted to say good riddance on the sight as a fuck you to her fanwhores. It shows that Lucasfilm is starting to care. Either way good news. It's a shame because if she toned down the mando wanking and kept the jedi bashing and minimalism low then she might have been good.

Fucking good.
How does this effect the whole Boba Fett's army from the end of the Vong war? (yes, that's as caught up as I am)

She could have wanked the mandos all she wanted as long as it made some sense. Same with the Jedi hate. There is room in Star Wars for that, and shit, it is even a logical response to all the devastation the Sith, which come from the Jedi, have caused. It is just that she made it a universal. In her world, everyone thought the same way; Jedi=Evil. Even the fucking Jedi.

That's what you get Traviss, for having such a one-dimensional focus despite getting to write numerous different SW books. Take away her precious Mandos and she's got nothing. She obviously wasn't interested in the rest of SW as it actually was, without all her Jedi-bashing and Clone Wars conspiracy theories.
Previous Mando/Fett canon has been changed before. AOTC basically said that Journeyman Protector stuff was crap. Difference is we didn't have a writer completely obsessed with Journeyman Protectors back then.

I love that she couldn't go the FIRST SENTENCE without mentioning here "beloved Journalism"
I'm an old journo, as you almost certainly know by now, and like any good journo (there are such animals, honest) I prefer to be proactive, not reactive

Why the fuck does this woman always bring that up. A journalism degree is the laughing stock of most writers I know in university. I don't think it gives her any particular street cred, though apparently this is lost on her.

Does ANYONE ever use the term 'Journo' in common speech besides her? She's the only place I've ever heard the term.

Isn't journalism is now viewed with disdain in recent years?

Not to my knowledge. Of course, its also become a lot rarer, in favour of badly-written, populist, cult-of-celebrity crap.

3. No, I can't reconsider. It's sweet of you to keep asking, but I had to make my decision nearly a year ago.
Woah... someone actually asked her to write more SW books?
That's the reality of work-for-hire, and writing in general; you have to cast your net wide, and across all media. As much as I've enjoyed writing for all you Star Wars fans, and you've been terrific to me, it wasn't my whole career and neither could it have been, even if I'd wanted it to be.
I wonder what other franchise she has set her eyes on?

Gears of War, apparently, although we might be lucky and she's decided to write her own series. In that case she might be able to redeem herself - everything I've heard suggests that she's a pretty good writer, simply that she has an obsession with inserting her own ideas into everything with scant regard for what's gone before.

Actually given her Gears material? She's not a good writer. Maybe on her first Wars book she had an editor who told her where and what will happen, but her material goes southward very quickly. In fact her Gears material is far more grotesque then her SW material because she has more freedom on making the villains depraved and the Mand...Spart...I mean soldiers into more manly manly men.
Her own material would make Frank Miller blush.

Traviss may be trying to break into Halo. She's got a short story published in the jsut released Halo Evolutions. Havent heard anything about how it goes and nor have I read it. But her Gears of War stuff doesnt seem good (even though she's written two books) at least going by what people here say.
I dunno if I'd say she's a bad writer, just becaus she's proven to be an egotistical and vindicitve sort. She does write well I think, its just that she tends to write HER way and to hell with continuity. If her stories tend to coincide with the existing canon of the series, well thats just luck. Which is why an editor is probably important there.

I think the gaming community as a whole may be more tolerant of her than Star Wars or a franchise like Star Trek (She would love Klingons) as they seem to be a lot less critical of shitty stories and cant seem to figure out when something contradicts another source or even care. It seems to be more about the style and not the substance with them.
Interesting she is breaking into Halo. I wonder if it is because she has a hard on for the Uber Warriors, or if people with the Uber Warriors are seeking her out.
Any thoughts on her doing a WH book Connor? How would she fare with a Space Marine chapter of her very own?

The reason I bring up the bad writer part, is as I said...her first was decent. I did read it and it was a good work of a clone trooper and a Jedi neophyte. Her second, wasn't as good, but wasn't bad. It was when she went full Mando Mode/Jedi Hate that she went to complete shit. I do believe the highlight of laughs is split either between her expository voice claiming that a Jedi needed training from Boba Fett on killing Jedi or that the Jedi were conspiring with Palpatine to continue the Clone Wars.
Her GoW novel read like a worse version of Mando love, with ultra vile enemy evil. They just don't birth babies, they birth them through the XPOSVE RAPEZ!!! Add in homosexual undertones with the SPART...I mean Gears. It's why I say she's a bad writer, because it's becoming a trend of what her particular thoughts are on soliders, military tactics, and general plot is and her inability to reign them in. You can read one of her SW novels in the latter times, and replace Marcus and a few others with Mandos, and there's nearly no difference.
As for HALO? Hell, she's in her element, given she can use her version of the Mandos and SPARTANS as interchangeable and then go from there
.
And Hav, she would make a Space Marine Chapter look like a combination of the worst of Mando love, with a dash of Miller's All Star Spartan Wank. It would be Ultra Marines versus Dark Eldar-Tyranid-Chaos Marines who are raping innocent Sisters of Battle, with the Mand...I mean Ultra Smurfs destroying the evil Chaos-Tau-Eldar-Tyranid-Orks....and oh yeah, the Emperor of Mankind is the true power behind everything.

You mean it wasn't when she had one Jedi get bisected by another Jedi because she got in the way of a lightsaber trying to save a clone during Order 66?

Well as long as there is no SPARTAN 'culture' and Master Chief doesn't have some new language pulled out of his ass, it shouldn't be
too bad. Hopefully.

It's obvious that the mighty Mando spunk juice is what made that Jedi use it's worthless hide as a shield.

LOL...you hope for that. Obviously one of the large breasted female Spartans will become a newly undiscovered special Spartan and intergrate her mind with Cortana so that they can have sweaty Spartoa Sex with MC, who'll lead his mighty SPARTANs to defeat the newly born Gravemind, that was secretly conspiring with the USN to destroy the last of the noble race of SPARTANs.

Most idiots I've met who want people to think they're part of a group (that they're not in) will come up with stupid nicknames, abbreviations, or acronyms to sound "in", despite being the only person on the planet to talk like that.
I minored in technical writing, did a lot of public speaking, debate, and even some radio work in communications. Journalism majors were pretty much universally despised as useless people who could be replaced by apes with typewriters.

On that note, has Traviss ever actually used the word 'journalist'?

I loved how her beloved journalism on the military apparently had little to no effect on the way she envisioned combat and strategy. While she was wanking it to uber Clone special forces with 200:1 kill ratios, and writing nonsensical justifications for that, the US Army was stuck in a quagmire in Iraq. I once made the completely non-controversial statement that no soldier would ever claim to be able to engage a billion enemies single-handedly (like 3 million clones would have to against quintillions of droids), at which point she accused me of libel that undermined her professional qualifications.

God damn is that hilarious.
I still think her low point in the EU was when she let her Mary Sue accountant/analyst/whatever "debunk" Saxton's numbers in-universe. She ran some arithmetics to "prove" that there was not enough iron on a single terrestrial planet to build a quintillion battle droids.

Well, she was just
about to run that
no doubt unimpeachable arithmetic when the book moved on. Convenient.

It's an Aussie/Brit colloquialism.
