Compromising a Star Destroyer

Post by Darktrayn »

I am a part of an online star wars rpg, and the latest mission involves myself (a lt. engineer with supposed knowlage of an isd's systems) and a low number of special rebel operatives. Our situation is that the ISD is in orbit around a small unmapped planet that it has discovered by tracking our rebel nebulon-b. The ISD must be compromised in a way so that it is forced to leave the system and then loses the navigational data neccessary to return. We have several weapons and tools at our disposal onboard the ship we have infiltrated with imperial disguise, and an ion cannon on the surface which we can send a scramble code to for when needed.

This is extremely far-fetched, I know. Regardless, it must be done, and I have to figure out exactly how. I try to avoid fantasy mode and attempt to maintain the most accurate realism whenever possible, but this one has me stumped. I have the escape part down, but these are the objectives I need to solve:

-disable navigational records

-force the ship to leave the system (forcee into hyperspace possible?)

If anyone has any suggestion or possibilities what-so-ever on what could be done here (anything goes as far as system awareness i suppose, my character being a former KDT engineer and analyist) it would be immensely appreciated. Thank you.

Forcing the ship into hyperspace would be no problem, all you would need to do would to convince the Captain that his vessel is in serious danger..Ie: getting to the communications center and set up fake sensors readings to pose as if there is a rebel battlegroup incoming.

Wiping navagational records would require access to the main computer core I do believe...something a Captain often protects with his very life..

You need to destroy the ISD. The Neb B will have to be used in some sort of kamikaze attack as well as fighters, if you have enough B wings you can sacrifice the frigate in some sort of ramming attack.

Perhaps you could get the Neb B in a position so that it is on a straight vector with the ISD. Conventional ramming will not work because of the ISDs forward firepower, but if you put the ship into hyperspace with the ISD right in your escape vector then.

Plus if you run it with minimal crew or droid rig it the casualties will be minimal on your side.

You say you have an Ion cannon on the planet though? you might even be able to do some damage to the SD prior to the kamikaze attack andyou could guarantee its destruction or possibly do enough damage to the SD that the Nebulon and fighters could move in and finish it off?

You cannot allow the ISD to leave the system IMHO, for one thing a cometent captain ouldn't leave until the base is flattened and troops were deployed. Assume it isn't Allston/Stackpole's "Imparied Imperial" commanders.

Impossible I'm afraid. They're backed up. Even then the ship's orders will be held on a database somewhere. The best option would be to try to introduce a fault in the ship's navigation systems that makes any destination entered go to the Maw Cluster or somewhere similar. If you're prepared to destroy the ship. Then hope no one bothers to check manually until the ship is already in the gravity well.

How were you able to get onboard the ISD?
Do they know exactly that the base and the frigate are rebell? If not, try to fake them being a secret imperial research or inteligence compound. Otherwise disable their communication and destroy the ship before any long-range vessel could escape ... Since it is in action the captain is on the bridge so he canot be captured and if you are unlucky he has already reported what he found.

Thanks for the assistance. Let me provide more backround on the mission itself:

Dozens of huge dropships have distributed an armada of super stormtroopers across the face of Morricon with grim effectiveness. The planet is already under complete control of the Empire, and the inhabitants of Morricon, who this planet's mysterious "jedi protector" tells us are physically without flaw, brings the Empire within a few steps of a fully perfected super stormtrooper.
Even if we don't make it out of the system alive we have to do as much damage to the project as we can, if not stop it outright. If we're to salvage the situation, it means making sure the planet stays safe from the Empire in the future. We naturally can't destroy the Star Destroyer Judicator, so we're going to have to seriously disrupt operations from the inside. Myself and our ship's lead intellegence operative have posed as an Ensign officer and a super stormtrooper, respecively, and have hitched a ride on one of the returning dropships. As for the ground situation, the "jedi" still seems to have the situation well in hand, despite the fact that the surface is overrun and our marines are scattered. It's imperative that he reaches the place he's searching for. Ground forces will stick with him, and be prepared to help with whatever he finds.
Our Rebel Nebulon B, meanwhile, is still in hiding, but the Judicator will not tolerate our presence in the area for very long ...

Ok, if you are a group of engineers, and you have already infiltrated the Star Destroyer, you can try this from "Before The Storm":
pg.126: "Looks like a failure of the primary transfer coupling for the solar ionization reactor. Which is about as foolproof a piece of eqiuipment as there is abord a Star Destroyer."

"Sabotage?"

"Or just plain bad luck, said Proi." Whatever happened, it dropped the hyperspace motivator right down the pipe into the reactor core. The secondary explosion broke her back and carried away just about everything below the twenty-sixth deck. Poor sods wouldn't have had any warning at all. Concussion alone probably killed most everyone on the upper decks."

Wouldn't The ISD have transmitted the navigational data via holonet to the empire's main archives? Since this is a newly discovered system, I guess the Captain might hold off transmitting the data so he can deliver it personally and make sure he gets his due credit.

I would think that an approach similar to that of the Falcon to the ISD in ESB - ie straight fast and scary would be best, followed by guys in zero-g kit JUMPING out of the fucking door and aiming for the bridge windows. Once there, plant thermal dets or similar on the windows and get ready to rock.

Like I said, zero-G gear, this means that have maneuvring ability. Get the timing right and they'll hit hard, but won't splat...
