OK so only a bit of recycled dialogue has annoyed me so far.

The fleet battle is fucking sweet though and of an appropriate scale. Going pretty good so far...

Ugh... but then Grievous spoke. How do you pick some fucking schmuck over Gary Fucking Oldman? Seriously.

Did GL ever give a reason as to why he made the battle droids sound like morons?

Also, the score again, is fucking off. I'm really wondering if Williams just phoned in the last two movies?

Ugh... the silly posturing between Obi Wan, Anakin and Dooku... and Palpatine's little cheers.

Oh you just wait until you get to the part where Padme dies from heartbreak. Or any of the scenes of Dark Side Annakin Rarrr. Least convincing character development ever.

The ships going broadside is great, but of course the artillery style guns are a little... strange.

And again... the lack of score is... jarring.

At least Anakin looks cooler in this one and Obi-Wan's hair grew out a little bit.

The manned artillery emplacements make sense artistically, since so much of ANH's battle scenes were based off of WWII footage. In universe they may seem strange, but I see it more as a wink and nod to ANH.

Dude. What the fuck? What is with all the cackling villains in the PT? Vader never laughed. And when Palpatine did it, it was truly menacing and he was genuinely taking joy in Luke's pain. The PT villains all laugh manically to themsel- OH SHIT MILLENNIUM FALCON SIGHTING!

Generally more fond of this movie than the other two. Its not the best of the series, and it has its ups and downs-- Grievous is a bit annoying, but on the other hand the character gives Obi Wan an excuse to be outrageously awesome. The fight between Mace Windu Samuel L. motherfucking Jackson and Palpatine is probably the worst lightsaber duel in the series (its waaayyy too obvious neither actor knows what they are doing with a sword, and I remember the camera work not helping things, even considering the close quarters nature of the scene). But on the other hand, the climactic duel at the end is great on all accounts (even once you factor in Yoda's stupid fighting style). Anakin needed better acting direction, but thats endemic of the whole trilogy, and balanced out by Obi Wan and the generally good writing. The biggest problems the movie has are of course the ones it inherited from the other movies, like the fact that it tries to do in medias res with regards to the war, and it just feels like we've missed a few too many details that were covered in another show. And although I liked Clone Wars (not to be confused with that CGI trash), this is generally a weakness of the movie. One more reason to hate AoTC for dropping the ball? Maybe.

Oh, and I love the art direction. For once the use of CGI wasn't a major sticking point but actually worked.

Yeah, but those are on a gigantic fucking space station. They seem out of place on the star destroyers.

First scene with Anakin and Padme... it actually has a lot of chemistry going, but it has a very wrong vibe to it, which works for obvious reasons, but I don't think it was intentional.

Grievous is not menacing at all. Darth Maul would have filled his role perfectly.

Did anyone else notice that Palpatine openly referred to Dooku as a Sith Lord? When did Dooku ever actually drop the pretense of leading the separatist movement because the Republic was under the influence of Darth Sidious? I don't recall him ever admitting he was a Sith in AOTC.

Did the EU come to the rescue once again?

What in the flying fuck reason could Palpatine have come up with that would allow HIM to post Anakin to the Council that they would agree with?

Oh, yeah, I forgot how much this movie dragged when it came to the Jedi politics subplot. Unless you are having a action scene, dickwaving competitions are just LAME.

Holy shit. The one time when Anakin makes the right choice for the right reasons and the Council forces him to go against it. Of course that answers my previous question. They allowed Palpatine's appointment of Anakin so they could put some more stress on the most powerful village murderer in the galaxy.

OK Ian McDiarmid saves alot of this movie.

I have to say, I like Utapal and the design of the races there. Not really sure why. Plus the leader there is the crazy guy with the flying machine in Mad Max.

OK, well at least Obi-Wan gets to be a complete arrogant bad ass now. But what is with the Prince finger pointing?

Damnit. How cool would it have been for Maul and Obi-Wan to go at it again here? I mean you give Obi-Wan a little more character and an actual reason to be on Utapal other than just for the Council to piss off Anakin more, avenging Qui-Gon's death. Plus you have Maul who is the one killing all the Jedi like he was fucking trained to do and he would be constantly eluding and running from Obi-Wan since he beat him on Naboo.

Obi-Wan's "oh, I don't think so" is as painfully banal a retort in ROTS as it was in AOTC when Mace said it to Dooku. I know Lucas is no master of dialogue (he admits it), but couldn't he have written something a little snappier?

The showdown with Grievous might have carried some weight if he'd been around long enough for us to care. Imagine if he and Maul were both in TPM; both apprentices of Sidious (fuck the rule of two). Maul dies the same way while Grievous escapes after killing Qui-Gon.

GL did do a damn good job with Palpatine. And once again, Anaikin makes the right choice and Mace is gonna fuck it all up. Can we just blame him for the Jedi getting wiped out?

And why does SLJ deliver the line like that? 'A Sith Lord?! Like Anakin just rediscovered them for the first time in 1000 years.

He doesn't admit it, but it's obvious at the end that he's a Sith Lord (if the red blade wasn't a dead giveaway, I guess the fact he threw force lightning at Yoda ought to reveal him for who and what he is). Him telling Obi-wan about there being a Sith Lord manipulating events in the Republic was a pretense certainly, but Obi-wan didn't believe him. I can't remember Dooku using that as a reason to lead the separatists though.

And ironically, the best acted, most powerful touching scene between Padme and Anakin... and they aren't even in the same room together.

No way Galvs. Grievous is a tool. The character is stupid. We don't need a bridge to Vader. We get that with the occasional dismemberment of Anakin here and there. No, just Maul. Dooku could still be there as just what the Jedi thought he was, an idealist that was disillusioned by the Republic, so he goes off and starts the Separatists, but then OOPS it was all the Sith Lord *CHOP HEAD*

Man, Palpatine clearly lost that fight. Mace kicked his ass.

Shit, man. Palps was straight begging Mace not to kill him. He totally had no idea if Anakin was going to turn or not. It is so cool too, because for all of Palpatine's scheming, and planning and positioning, he still wasn't sure about this one moment. If Anakin turns it is 100% victory and if he doesn't, DEATH. Man, that is a cool scene. None of this Palpatine was faking bullshit.

P.S. Mace totally landed in a taxi cab like Lilu Dallas and lived.

He told Obi-Wan that Viceroy Gunray came to him for help and told him everything about Sidious. I just assumed that that was supposed to be his "private" motivation for championing the separatist cause.
