A Force Question - Light and Dark

Are the two sides of the Force, Light and Dark the same Force and its difference is only in how you use it?
And exactly what IS the force? I've heard the definitions of it being a 'life energy' that surrounds everything in the galaxy, but it does seem to also have a mind of its own. Case in point, it already knows the future and shows glimpses to those strong enough to see it. It apparent also sets it own prophecies.. "the chosen one."

I think of the Force as some sort of psychic continuum which can be used to manipulate the physical world. Sorry if it sounds weird, but I've never been particularly eloquent.

I think yes. It was what Luke finally (RoTJ) realized that the light and dark are allways together.
However when you are against to be in harmony with your surroundings (you follow the dark side) a turbulence will raise within you and affect you.

Not even the jedis can determine it. Maybe it is the consciousness beyond material.

My pet theory.
There is a limited pool of "force" of which roughly half is "light" and half "dark". Thus only a certain amount may be drawn on at any one time.
Due to there being so many Jedi their force pool is being drained rapidly, hence their diminshing abilities, while the Sith can draw massively upon it due to there only being two.
This might also have to do with "bringing the force back into balance", where there are only 2 jedi (Yoda and Obi Wan, then Yoda and Luke) and 2 Sith, meaning that the force pools become equal again.
Or am I just crazy.

Probably just crazy.
GL said something to the effect that the prophecy was fullfilled at Endor without actually saying really what the prophecy is.

After Endor, technically isn't Luke the last active Jedi/Sith left? There kind of is balance in him being the only one.
Well, until you get to the EU.

Yes the Force intended for their to be a highly ritualistic order consisting of one person until he died and then was supposedly balanced perfection?

In Traitor of NJO, Jacen finds that there is no light or dark, there is only the Force itself and that it can be channeled to do evil or good and that its nature lies in the user, I may have interprited this wrong though.

The Prophecy is fufiled in that Vader/Anakin dedtroyed both the Sith and Jedi Orders as they stood at the time. He gave the Force the chance to swell out again through the universe and a new method of force training began. The method Luke used in his Accademy was very different from that which the old Jedi use in that he begins with people already tapping into the Force naturally.

Luke also gives his students a large amount of freedom, like alowing the students to get involved with one another, Vergere was shocked at this. Lukes methods may have been for the worse though, look at the amount of students that went to the dark side (even if they did come back) and compare that with the amount that went to the dark side in the Old Republic times, granted we don't know how many apart from Anakin, but Luks turned out around 3 in 6 years (IIRC).

Perhaps the Force can be represented as a quantum wave, like Gravity or Electromagnetism.
Ysilimari are capable of reflecting the Force back 180 deg. out of phase, creating a spherical shell of "no Force" around it, thus negating any Jedi or Sith powers within this sphere of influence.

Don't,even go there.Do that and I drown you in the shredded pages of Crystal Star.
I always viewed the Force along the sense of Zen/Gaia for Unifying Force,Ying/Yang for Living Force.
That answers Destiny perfectly,as a misconception of the Force is that the Dark Side is evil, whereas the Light Side is Good. However, both religious philosophies listed states each other as being neccesary.Destruction and Creation cannot exist without each other.
