Just how big was the rebellion? Considering the rebellion could only amass a pittance of a fleet against the Death Star 2, how much of a threat did the rebellion really pose to the Empire? I believe the Empire only really fell was because of the will of the Force that Luke Skywalker would bring balance meaning the end of the Emperor and then the Empire.

The military threat of the Rebellion was minimal, even taking into account bombings and sabotage. However the political threat was considerable, as long as an alternative to the Empire existed it would be unstable, especially with considerable military forces in the hands of systems. Thus the Empire had to destroy that alternative.

Hmm, it's a bit like they're the Seperatists of the New Trilogy. Given time they may be able to gather more systems to their cause and eventually become a threat.

Especially with any semblance of a democracy destroyed.

They certainly were strapped for manpower, resources, and ships, BUT they had gained a dedicated following overtime, especially after the destruction of Alderran. Plus the actual tech level they were at was pretty much the same as the Empires.

They also mastered the art of hit and run guerrilla warfare against the Empire and by the time of ROTJ they had the full backing of the Mon Calamari and they had assembled a fleet of fairly powerfull ships and decided to take the Emperors bait and attack the DS2. It was a trap as we all know and it likely would have worked out but Luke Skywalker was still alive and obviously loyal to the rebellion. His victory over Vader and the Emperor was a HUGE blow as well as the fact that Han managed to take down the shield of the DS2 with the help from the Ewok surprise attack and Chewie managing to take over one of the AT-ST's.

The ewoks still blow my mind. I cannot imagine those little things being able to hurt my DOG even if they tried, let alone a LEGION of the Emperor's best.

What do you mean? They are vicious little murdering, sneaky bastards. They caught and were planning on eating our heroes. I never got why people think they were so cute. They look like little bears, right until they eat your flesh.

There was even a Star War Tales short about them. They scared the pants off of a trooper.

Im told that the rebel fleet at endor was the entire fleet, galaxy wide - I remember asking about that a few weeks ago. which supports some of the books - the emperor is popular, the rebellion regarded as terrorists.

According to some sourcebook stuff they had like 1/10th of the empires resources or something, but badly spread out all over the outer rim, so they couldn't focus and direct manpower and industry like the Imperials.

The Emperor was popular amongst the humans, who appear to be the majority, but not amongst many aliens due to his policies. His force kept them mostly in line, however.

AFAIK, the Rebels stationed a bunch of ships at Mon Calamari for it's defense during Endor - the only area left protected during the attack.
