Executor's shield globes - my new theory

I thought of this while I was at work today.
OK, think for a second that the globes atop an ISD are indeed shield generators and not sensor globes. I think I found a way to explain the scene with the Executor.
During the battle of Endor, all Rebel cruisers are ordered to concentrate fire on the Executor. After an intense barrage, the ship's shields go down, at least partially. Techs immediately begin working to repair them.
Meanwhile, the A-wings slip through the hole in the shield and blast the globesto prevent them from bringing the shields back up.
This would explain why the officer aboard the Executor's bridge looked at the screen immediately after the globes were destroyed and said "Sir! We've LOST our bridge deflector shield!" (emphasis mine). He would be referring to the fact that there would be no way tore-raisethe bridge shield, which is why Piett gave the command to increase forward firepower to protect them.
In other words, my theory is that its not that the two A-wings brought down the ship's shields, it's just that they prevented them from bringing the shields back up AFTER they already lost them.
What do you think?

I already read that theory in Spacebattles.
I don't mind, but I always thought they were the boobs when the Executor goes into MegaMaid mode.

Your theory is possible, but I don't really think it's necessary. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the globes=scanners theory, and in fact, it's supported by the older official material, common sense, real-life analogues, and a straightforward interpretation of the canon scene in question.
So, like I said, your theory works as a solution if the globes are shield generators, but there's no good reason to accept that they are in the first place.

Why don't any capital ships either than the SDs have shield generators like that?
Why are TF Coreships have deeply recessed shield generators?

Well many people who are EU loyalists (or would love those domes to be identified as shield generators, eg. the percentage of Trekkies who would latch onto any apparent weakness in SW) would say that other SW ships does indeed have external shield generators, like that two little little box bits sticking out on the Falcon (
).

I do not think the globes are shield generators.
If they were the shield generators they would be able to project shield more than a kilometre away. Why could not a single globe defend the whole ship?

IIRC, Saxton found something like eighteen globes on and around the bridge of the Executor. That makes more sense for sensors then shields to me.

The problem with your theory is that there were TWO globes. Both would have needed to be destroyed if you wanted to permanently drop the bridge shields. Since one was intact, your interpretation would be incorrect.
they are shield generators

Why aren't you in hell, where you belong?

The A-wings were pulling away laterally as the globe went up. I think they were setting up for a run on the other globe.
So, like I said, your theory works as a solution if the globes are shield generators, but there's no good reason to accept that they are in the first place.
As a matter of fact, I agree with you, but like I said, this popped into my head and I wanted to post it.

if youve ever played rouge squadren 2 it tells you they are shield generatores becasue you have to take them out in a a few missions there are two on top one for fore and one fore aft and the port sides then one on the bottom so i dont thinik the game lies becasue tis from lucas arts and stuff
Rogue Squadron 2 also tells us that Star Wars fighters cannot travel faster than a few hundred meters per second, when we know, from ANH, that they can travel many hundreds of kilometers per second.
Further, Lucasfilms also tells us that the games do not carry much weight in terms of canonicity.

The little fucker doesn't seem to care that his first-grade typing style is illegible, for one, nor does he know that four smileys don't negate a totally ignorant, moronic statement that disregards Canon policy.
Jesus Hungry-Hungry-Hippo Chirst droolling over a boardgame, you'd think that if this dumbass Net Rat wants to stop being asociated with spaceluigi, he'd stop acting like him.

Count how many globes are on the Executor. There are more then 2.
