They are official. There's no such thing as Canon EU. The entire EU is official. They were introduced in the Dark Empire sourcebook if I remember right.

I hate haing to repeat myself but all EU is cannon unless some form of higher canon contradicts it.

EU is not canon.. only fan canon. George Lucas could give a crap about what the fans think.

Read the announcements forum moron. There it says what is cannon and what isn't. Movies are the highest canon, below that is the radio screenplays and novelisations, below that further are the EU novels and comics, WHICH DARK EMPIRE IS, and below that further still is the story lines.

The above is null and voided if any thing contradicts anything in the level above.

Yeah. It also holds the only picture.

A) It's canon not cannon.

B) The EU is only official and not canon. Only the movies and their directly related materials (Radio Plays, novels, comics) are canon.

Dark Empire is official. It still counts but it's a lesser source than the movies and their direct off shoots./

I thought the Eclipse was from the Dark Empire series and the Sovereign was from somewhere else? :?:

I think Soveigrn was in Dark Empire. The Eclipse was too, but I think a number of ships were introduced.

The EU is official. Starwars.com officials just claim it's canon to soothe the crows of the fanboys. Until Lucas comes out with a damn press announcement that it's canon, it's official. The only people that know about the EU are people like us. You hit up some asshat on the streets, and they'll be like, 'The fuck is Expanded Universe. Is that the movies?' LoL, that's always a good one. Still though, the movies are the movies. The direct relation to the movies (scripts, novels, radio dramas) are canon. Trying to elevate bull shit like KJA novels to thier level (or at least a level unless contradicted by the films) is utter bullshit.

According to Sue Rostoni, an employee of Lucas Licensing, in a remark quoted in Star Wars Gamer #6, "Canon refers to an authoritative list of books that the Lucas Licensing editors consider an authentic part of the official Star Wars history." The Expanded Universe, as a recognised and authentic part of the official continuity, is canonical, insofar as it does not, according to Mlle Rostoni, "does not conflict with, or undermine the meaning of" the absolute canon.

Strictly speaking, this is the proper definition of "canon" in a literary context (a list of recognised, authentic works).

In reference to the original subject, the Sovereign-class Super Star Destroyer was introduced in Mr Michael Allen Horne's Dark Empire Sourcebook (West End Games, 1993); to date, the class has neither appeared, nor been referred to, in any subsequent work. The facts known about the class, as presented by the Sourcebook, are canonical, insofar as they do not "conflict with, or undermine the meaning of" the absolute canon, i.e., the films.

The Dark Empire Sourcebook's entry on the Sovereign-class is as follows:
Mr Michael Allen Horne, in the Dark Empire Sourcebook, p. 89, wrote:The Sovereign

A less powerful design of the Eclipse-class has been created named the Sovereign-class (it still overwhelms the original Super Star Destroyer design). The Emperor envisioned a fleet of these vessels. The first of the line, still under construction, is the Sovereign. Other potential ships in the line include the Autarch, Despot and Heresiarch.

Unlike the Eclipse, the Sovereign-class only carries 35 squadrons of TIE Interceptors and five of Bombers. It carries only 75 All Terrain Armored vehicles.

It is generally believed that the Sovereign and her sisters perished with the destruction of Byss in Empire's End, although one should note that this is strictly speculation. The stated number of Marines embarked (viz., 130,100) suggests, based on calculations derived from Mr Greg Gorden's Imperial Sourcebook, Second Edition (West End Games, 1994), legionary or Corps strength.

Interestingly enough, unlike most known classes, the Sovereign-class has a systematic nomenclature. A sovereign is one invested with independent, supreme authority. An autarch is an absolute ruler. A despot is ruler whose authority is unlimited by constitutions or laws. Strictly speaking, none of the preceding three words has a negative connotation (consider, for example, "Enlightened despotism"). Somewhat out of place, then, is a heresiarch, who is the originator or chief proponent of a heresy or heretical movement (e.g., the Sith Order, a heretical sect of the Jedi Order).

While we only have a silhouette of the Sovvie there's some fanart that may give us a good idea of what the ship actually looks like.
I had that as avatar a while ago. I'd show you if I could find it.....

They got a playable Sovereign in the Star Wars: Fleet Command mod for Armada 2. That sucker is expensive as hell, takes forever to make, but it can single handedly destroy an entire enemy force.

Quick&Dirty translation from WEG stats to real units, based on my previous work translating them. Subject to error, not valid in all countries, yada yada.

Hyperdrive: Equal to Darth Maul's personal transport in TPM.

Sublight speed: Between 3000-4000 G's of acceleration, linear.

Axial Superlaser: Oddly enough, a full power shot here is equal to a normal shot from the DS1, suggesting it may be a planetbuster.

Heavy lasers: Most likely equal to the Acclamator's guns, 6MT each. Average fire control equipment.

Turbolasers: Equal to Acclamator's batteries, at 200GT per shot. Superior fire control equipment(Matched only by the Lancer Frigate's equipment!)
