When you think you've seen it all...

...you go to TFN and see a guy aruging that Vader can stop the DS beam with his hand... :wtf:

And no I'm not joking...there is a guy seriously arguing that Darth Vader can stop the Death Star beam with his hand. Among other things, he takes Palpy's famous 'UNLIMITTED POWWWWERRR' thing at face value, and Yoda saying that nothing is impossible with the Force. I seriously thought I had seen it all, but this truly takes the cake...

His hand might have problems but if he had a wide enough lightsaber? That's a possibility, especially since he has a monopoly on crystals. He might need to scale up and build a larger version of the lightsaber but he could control it with TK.

EDIT:

But it doesn't matter because he could just move the Death Star out of alignment with the Force and that would be that.

"size matters not" nor gigaJOOULES!!!

Also, wasn't there the junior star wars books a long time ago saying that Vader's glove was made to be completely indestructible and an eternal symbol of the Empire's power? He might be taking that too literally to.

That was my first thought. It was about a three-eyed guy named Trioculus, wasn't it?

IF Vader's glove was indestructable, how did Luke cut his hand off then?

He cut the arm above the end of the glove. Sheesh.
Except if memory serves Luke cut off his hand at the wrist?
Well he was obviously wearing a different glove at the time.

Oh man, at first I thought this was just typial no-limits wanking, like the anti-laser shielding claimed by Trek fans during the old Vs. Debates...then I looked down a couple posts and was reminded of that Glove of Darth Vader nonsense. Thanks.

I don't know what you people are talking about. Those books never happened, got it?

Good.

Now, back to the OP...Skywalker, can you give a link so we can see some context to the claim and the circumstances of the discussion in which it was brought up?

Personally I find it dubious. If you want to take I, Jedi account of Force Absorb then yeah, he could try to do it but absorbing too much energy can be pretty dangerous for a Jedi and it'd be hard to see how Vader could find a way to redirect all that energy from a Death Star blast without essentially exploding everything around him anyway, probably resulting in his death indirectly even if he could absorb all that energy somehow.

Well the Emperor's bastard son was a three eyed mutant, which is why he was hidden away in shame, except everyone down to the last stormtrooper knows everything about the scandal so when a three eyed mutant showed up claiming to be Palpatine's son and found Vader's glove... Yeah, those books were some ridiculous shit. I didn't even get into how the REAL three eyed mutant son had a kid of his own who grew up in the hidden underground City of Droids on Yavin 4.

Sure, here's a link:

Do you think Darth Vader can stop the DS beam with his hand

What I find funny is this...the guy arguing for Vader being able to do it goes to truly absurd lengths to prove his point. Its actually rather funny when I think about it. And it wasn't brought up in the discussion...its the whole point of the discussion. And I can't believe I actually jumped into it...I never get into discussions like this...it was just too good an opprotuinty to pass up...

EDIT: All this talk about those horrid books made me put the wrong thread title in the link! :P

Well, its fixed now...carry on.

I rather think the absurd started at 'Vader's glove can stop the superlaser'. And I live in a universe where absurd is the norm.

Clearly Ahriman doesn't "see" the joke in the post he quoted.

First off, I would suspect its an attempt to get a rise out of 'logical' fans. Second guess would be it's someone trying ot make some sort of grand 'point' that Star Wars is fiction and 'science fiction doesn't make sense' as if there were only two options: complete realism and looney toons physics (because as we know noone would complain if Darth Vader appeared at Rebel Headquarters out of one of those portable roll up holes you can stick on walls, or if the movie director manifested directly in the picture witha giant cartoon pencil eraser and removed a random Stormtrooper.)

I actually thought the bit where someone said that the movie jedi were underpowered was hilarious myself. Even moreso when he cited the Clone wars micro series as proof. Clearly the battle between Yoda and Sidious at the end of ROTS should not have been them throwing mere Senatorial pods at each other. They should have been chucking moons at one another. And Yoda should have used an energy blast to blow them apart while screaming and bouncing around like a hyperactive monkey.

Write a song about the three eyed man.

Most likely he is only a 10 year old kid that thinks he knows everything about the world already. Or perhaps just a schizophrenic.

It's the same old same old: taking Yoda's TESB comment to absurd extremes. IIRC at one point Lucas even called it "bumper sticker speak", probably for a reason. We shouldn't forget that Yoda's statement came in response to Luke's claim that lifting an X-Wing and lifting a rock were "totally different". But of course they're not; they're both applications of TK. On the other hand, if "size matters not" is blown out of proportion, it rapidly becomes a slippery slope leading directly to absurd and untenable results. It becomes a generalized assumption that scale is somehow irrelevant, that no physical distinctions or differences must ever influence outcomes. The problem is that that isn't true in any universe, even one with magic powers and swords that can cut (almost) anything. In this sense what we don't see the Jedi do is as important as what we do see.

Well Sith were able to blow up stars in some of the old republic comic books. Such abilities can exist apparently.

Yes, but only through the help of some special magic Sith-artefact built into a ship that has never been seen again since its use a few millenia ago. I believe that it was destroyed, to boot. Either way, no Force-user has ever blown a star up through sheer Force power.

If memory serves it was only made indestructable afterwards.

Glove, man. Apparently, Vader couldn't find matching pair this morning 8)
Clearly the battle between Yoda and Sidious at the end of ROTS should not have been them throwing mere Senatorial pods at each other.
To be fair, I found Luke's quote how he thinks battles between old Force Masters should have been cataclysmic events far more terrible than his fights with Vader one of the greatest missed possibilities of the prequels...

Instead, we got hyperactive monkey with light butterknife, as if Jedi Master really needed lightsaber for anything anymore.

Yeah, every time I can recall it was an ancient Force superweapon only guided by the power of user in question - and one time someone not being top Sith Lord using it ended with him exploding, too.
