Battle droid AI pisses me off no end.
Now, in TPM it wasn't *that* bad, but was still dubious enough to be worrying.
In AotC however, you have battledroids showing fear (backing away from critters complete with appropriate vocals), so this would indicate a level of self preservation instinct, perhaps as a measure of economic rationalism and combat effectiveness.
So why the fuck do the super battle droids REPEATEDLY hammer the normal battle droids out of the way? Huh? WHY! It makes no fucking sense! And it also shows that their coordination is massively shoddy as if they were a true network of minds then they wouldn't be getting in each others goddamn way.

Because GL doesn't think things through logically and the entire fucking department seems to view combat droids as domesticated attack animals or something.
They're stupid. Just like the "all Jango clones" bullshit now peddled by GL.

Well they were designed by a bunch of businessmen. Keep 'em aggressive to make 'em strong.

They might well have throw them into battle half ready. The Seperatists didn't seem to be expecting a fight so they might have had a seriously messed up command and control system in place.

I only saw a battledroid slam one ordinary one out of the way. They must be programmed to hit a target at all costs- to the point of fratricide.

If you watch carefully, you see that only one time does a SBD hit a regular out of the way, and it was a damaged droid that was blocking the SBD.

IIRC the BD was damaged. And the SBD are probably programed with "agressive tendancies."

Any evidence that the SBD's follow the same philosophy of central control? Or, heck, that the Neimodians kept their old philosophy at all? It could be that, by the time AOTC rolls around, they've upgraded all their droids to be self-sentient.

If their CPU's were all linked would they have beaten the Jedi before the army showed up?

Honestly, I see no reason why the droids ever feared the Acklay. If Jango can take a big honking bull with a pistol, I think two battledroids wielding bigger carbines should've been enough to handle this guy.
The droid the SBD smacked down was damaged, had no chance of recovery from the looks of it, and was simply blocking his path. After all, every shot counts against Jedi, and thats one less singnal that he Control Ships doesn't have to send.

There programming might tell them not to engage various forms of wildlife.

Maybe they were afraid of catching collateral damage from the fight between Obi-wan and the Acklay?

No. We see several driod's backing away from the Aklcky while it tosses others through the air in the background of one shot well before Obi-wan kills it.

I don't know if this is canon- but there is the deleted scene called for in the script where Jedi disable a control ship, the droids shot down- and then come back online again.

That'd make sense. Even if the Trade Federation is made of businessmen, they can't be stupid enough to let Naboo happen again.

The blaster carbines of the battle droids did not seem to have quite as much firepower as Jango's custom blaster pistols. For one thing, the chest armor of an SBD was capable of shrugging off blaster carbine shots. For another, I seem to recall a case of carbine shot ricocheting off the arena floor.
Also, the targeting abilities of the battle droids are not hugely impressive, so that they would likely waste several shots shooting at nonvital areas. In the meantime, the Acklay would be bashing them to pieces.
It looked like Jango hit the big critter with a shot that penetrated where a normal quadruped would likely have a gap in its skeletal coverage, providing Jango with a straight shot to the internal organs. (If it was a head shot, disregard.) If Jango's blaster pistol had an effective firepower similar to Han Solo's blaster, then the big critter's forward internal organs should have been crisped just like Greedo was. A huge quadruped like that, with a big head obviously containing a brain, needs a heart near the head in order to circulate blood through the brain. Having the lungs far away from the mouth, nose and heart is also impractical, so Jango was pretty safe in assuming that his shot would be a kill shot, since vital organs had to be located there.

Whether it's canon or not, it's supported by the AOTC ICS. According to the ICS, military control towers are, by the time of Geonosis, installed on most Core Ships, and upgraded computer cores allow coordination of droid armises through the use of Officer Droids and neigboring droid-control ships.
The TradeFed forces on Geonosis would therefore have had plenty of backup in terms of droid contol. Knocking out one ship's transmission should have only temporarily taken out a portion of the total force until other ships took up the slack.

Were all the Geonosis battle droids (seen in the arena) supposed to be under the control of one Control Ship? It was mentioned that several droid armies existed (under the control of different factions that were joining the Seperatists). Could it be possible that the droid armies had different programming and thus no regard for each other (another blunder made by the Seperatists in the battle)?
Then again, I may simply be wrong and in fact all the droids scene in the Geonosis Arena are those belonging to Poggle the Lesser's Geonosian faction.
