Republic at war is a total conversion mod for star wars empire at war. It covers the clone wars and it has elements from the movies, cartoon and the cg show. It includes 2 super ships 1 for each side. The first is the malevolence for the CIS and the second is the pride of the core a mandator 2 star dreadnought for the republic.
Th give a taste of the battles that galactic conquest can bring the republic attacked my CIS mygeeto system with 3 venators 6 acclaimators and a variety of smaller ships. In defense I has a war mod Lucrehulk, 2 providence carrier destroyers ( not the Invisible Hand) 4 recusants and 2 munificents. The battle was needless to say the battle was brutal but te firepower and shields of my Lucrehulk as well as the absurd amount of vulture droids and droid bombers it carried allows me to not only win but to virtually destroy them with only their fighters escaping.

Is the ground combat still as shit as it was in the original?

Err it is a bit better but I still play mainly for the space battles.

Most of what I've head from this mod is that it's horrifically unbalanced.

I have noticed that the CIS is overpowered especially so on the ground but even in space a single Lucrehulk is enough to gaurentee victory in most battle due to the absurd sheilding and the high fighter compliment. But I still can't stop playing it.

Well, the Lucrehulk II has enough shields to hold out a "flotilla" of Venator/Victory Star Destroyers so that -is- Canon. Of course, that cuts down drastically on fighter count, but the amounts in the mod are likely 'canon' enough

Frankly, I'm of the opinion that I'd rather let the new Newton or new Tesla lead a better life than have him have a shitty one and come up with apple powered death rays."
