Examples of Jedi Mediation?
What are some examples of Jedi acting like neutral third parties in Star Wars, films and EU? Whether in arbitration, mediation, or other examples?

I think there's at least 1 such quest in KOTOR (where you deal with the feud between the two farming families on dantooine)
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Although not 100% neutral (Naboo being part of the Republic after all) the opening to Episode 1 clearly shows the Jedi being sent as negotiators of some description.

well at this point in time the Trade Federation was part of the Galactic Republic as well to the Jedi were essentially sent as a neutral party to end an internal dispute.J Ryan wrote:Although not 100% neutral (Naboo being part of the Republic after all) the opening to Episode 1 clearly shows the Jedi being sent as negotiators of some description.

Re: Examples of Jedi Mediation?
Are those really the only two examples? All of the EU, and the vaunted title of the peacekeepers of the galaxy, and there are only two examples of actual mediation?

Re: Examples of Jedi Mediation?
If you're talking about major diplomatic stuff I've got nothing, though I recall at least one instance (in Dark Force Rising) where Luke settles a dispute over payment terms for a cross-border smuggling op (IIRC the smuggler was paid in Imperial credits when he was expecting New Republic, and for obvious reasons there's no way to exchange currency at that time). I also remember reading in one of the young readers' books (Jedi Quest: The Dangerous Games) where Obi-wan, Anakin, and Siri Tachi and her apprentice settle a private argument that could've turned into a major public disturbance (one of the parties involved had a vibrosword).

I think the problem is most of the EU authors focus too much on the PEW PEW PEW and flashy Jedi stuff and not on the fact that, to quote Mace Windu, "We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers." Though that's not a 100% guaranteed rule: as I was writing this I remembered a piece of "major diplomatic stuff" the Jedi were involved in: In The Approaching Storm, set right before AOTC, four Jedi (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee) were dispatched to Ansion to settle a border dispute because the planet had strategic significance in a whole mess of treaties (if it went Separatist it would take a crapload of planets with it). They pull it off mostly peacefully, too.

In the EU Jorus C'Baoth mediates at least two disputes, one involving the succession line of Alderaan. The other was in the Outbound Flight novel but I forget what it involved.

Re: Examples of Jedi Mediation?
There was some Prequel comic where the Jedi Council try to negotiate a peace treaty between a royalist government and some terrorist faction. It ended up being a failure seeing as the terrorists just wanted to kill the Prince and the Senator of Malastere being in league with them, but the Jedi did foil the assassination attempt and the terrorist leader got killed by Sebulba's pod racer or something like that.

Re: Examples of Jedi Mediation?
The Jedi sent three expeditions over the period of the later years of the Old Republic to stop the Sepan Civil War. All three failed.
General Grievous went pro-CIS because the Republic sanctioned the crap out of his peoples' planets due to his enemies who started the war calling the Republic and Jedi to mediate.
There were Jedi used as negotiators to keep the New Republic from collapsing during the Caamas Crisis.

Frankly, I'm of the opinion that I'd rather let the new Newton or new Tesla lead a better life than have him have a shitty one and come up with apple powered death rays."
