I am still surprised that there are people disappointed that he is returning for the Sequel trilogy though. Apparently they think he is simply too old ( and might die any second) to do the job. I've heard a few people who wants Giacchino to score the next Star Wars.

Well aside from "Dual of the Fates", what other pieces in the prequels were memorable?

The droid march? The podrace music? The opening battle music from EP3? Quite a few IMO.

Yeah, the score is actually pretty good. You didn't have 30 years of comfort and familiarity with it when it first came out.

I was just about to say something along the lines of 'Oh come on, he's not that old', when I googled his age. He's looking pretty damn good for 81
Hopefully his music will have adapted with the times, and have a slightly more modern feel to it than his previous work, though either way it's great to hear he's happy to do more.

Battle of the Heroes, the Order 66 music, Across the Stars...
Yeah the PT had some cool music. I think Mr. Williams has still got it. I don't have any issues with reusing some themes and incorporating them, because it does help make it feel like a cohesive whole instead of just a bunch of sequels made later.

The best aspect of the prequels in my opinion is William's score, hands down. If there is any redeeming quality to the bad, it's the score. I look forward to what the guy will come up with in the sequels.

It has been awhile since I've watched any of the prequels, but I remember both loving the score and getting annoyed with it. My annoyance sprang from the sense that the soundtrack never seemed to end. It felt like there was always some weak elevator music playing in every scene, very occasionally punctuated by some great theme. I'm sure there were scenes without an orchestral score in the background, and I'm making more out of this than I should, but for some reason this has become a bearbug in my brain.

Interesting. I find a lack of music in many scenes. Especially in ROTS.

Eh... Williams has really been showing his age, in my opinion. "Duel of the Fates" was pretty cool, and the Order 66 music was sort of generically sad, but nothing as ground-breakingly awesome as the Imperial March, Yoda's Theme, Leia's Theme, or especially Luke's Theme was to be found in the Prequels. (Although, I always thought Padme's theme was pretty good, actually.)
Then, in the new Indiana Jones movie, everything was basically a rehash; there was no new music that was in anyway memorable - just rehashes of the classic score and Miriam's theme.
Whatever, I mean, he's still probably like the most amazing Hollywood composer to have ever lived, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining. Even at 81, I'm not confident that anyone else would do a better job.

Star Wars wouldn't be the same without John Williams. I'm delighted he'll be doing the score again. I don't think he's lost his touch at all, I really enjoyed the PT Music, one of the few redeemable things about it was the music.

Well like I said, it's been awhile since I've watched them and I could easily be remembering incorrectly. I suppose I should give them a viewing at some point to see.

Silence can be used artistically to evoke emotions. Melodramatic music everywhere I'd cliche and completely overbearing. *shrug *

I agree, but the scenes I am thinking of seemed to need the music, and based on the rest of the movies and how they were scored, it was obviously a blank space.
