An observation regarding the early EU novels(pre-TPM)

As I saw the remembrance thread for AC Crispin it caused me to wonder about the early EU novels of her generation, specifically the question of whether there were any other good female authors of that era(there was Kathy Tyers). The works that came to mind were The Crystal Star, Children of the Jedi, and The New Rebellion which are all in the irrelevant category. A fundamental problem with those works is that nothing of value happens that has any lasting impact in later stories of significance. As much as he was awful, at least in KJA's books things of relevance actually occurred. I, Jedi even managed to largely rehabilitate the JA trilogy. Ignoring the Luke romance subplot and Dalaa's stupidity, Darksaber also worked as an interesting allegory to nuclear proliferation and the power gap that occurs after the fall of an empire(though the weapon failing obviously put a damper on that). With some heavy editing, his stories could almost be salvaged. The same can't be said for the other listed novels.
