Opening Crawl and Standalone Movies: Yay or Nay?

So exactly what it says in the title.

Thus far, the Opening Crawl has only been used for the OT and PT. The Clone Wars movie used their series standard of the newsreel footage and narration, which is not surprising since it was intended to be a three episode arc before George Lucas decided to make it theatrical. Still, as the only real theatrical Star Wars movie that matters outside of the Trilogies, it's at least a precedent.

So what do you think? Should it be reserved for the Episodes themselves? Or should it be included as a kind of Star Wars hallmark?

For me, I think I'd prefer they reserve it for the PT/OT/ST, to keep them special and distinct, as the "main features" of the Star Wars Saga. But I'm interested in hearing other opinions.

I'm unsure and don't feel really strongly about it. So I voted maybe.

My guess is that they will be used. All the SW games used it. Clone Wars was an exception given that it was geared for kids.

I voted yes. There's never been an actual Star Wars MOVIE without it. It's pretty much iconic.

It's Star Wars, opening crawl is a must - they put that opening crawl on games and even comics(though not moving of cause) and it would be weird if it wasn't on an official movie.

If they are looking to make mainstream movies, it would feel wierd. While fans may have liked it, Clone Wars wasn't mainstream. It was considered a kids movie.

As a side note, I wonder what rating the various new movies will aim for?

I agree. Bottom line is that the opening crawl is as much a staple of Star Wars as lightsabers, jedi or the dark side.

I think the crawl should be reserved to the core saga

The standalones should do their own thing to give them a distinct identity

I voted yes, however, it's going to feel weird without the Fox fanfare leading into it.

Oh shit I just realized we'll see a Disney logo before the opening crawl. That's unsettling. Are we also going to see Tinker Bell before the opening crawl?

Disney also owns Marvel. Did you ever see Tinker Bell there?

Production company splash screens are just there so I can open my sweets and drinks before the film begins. :) The presence or otherwise of tinkerbell, the Disney castle, the Fox logo or a Lucasfilm logo has no bearing on my enjoyment of the film.

The opening crawl, however ... keep that.

I voted "Yes", because like Borgholio and Purple said, it's as iconic as blasters and lightsabers.

There are some games that used it and some that didn't, but when they do use it, it adds significant percentage bonus to the genuine Star Wars vibe.
