Okay,
Here in the great brown/red land of Oz, we just had our census done, and basically in order for a religion to be recognised 10,000 people had to say that they belonged to it. Can you guys guess where I am going with this?
Yep you guessed it, over 17,000 people in the religion section wrote
Jedi! Hehe, George must by laughing his ass off right about now! So in Australia being a Jedi is an official recognised religion. Now if you will excuse me I have to go and build my lightsaber....
Mind you this whole thing came about because Star Wars fans emailed each other and pledged to write Jedi in the religion question and the government isn't takin' it too seriously, but hey they just announced it on the radio!

Cool!!! Too bad the US won't do anything like that.
Oh well. The price you pay for living in a Christian dominated country.

Holidays are up to the person, covered under WorkCover and the traditional
'sicky'. All other holiday's have yet to be announced, however GL's birthday looks like becoming one...

::ahem::
In one of the novels, it is mentioned that the Jedi must take every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off for meditation, and every Thursday and Friday must be devoted to excercise.
So, really, the only days of the week a Jedi can possibly work should be Saturday and Sunday. Luckily, most businesses are closed then.

I wish Jedi was a religion in the U.S. The Ep3 release date would be a national holiday, and all Star Wars products will be tax free. Also, all the televangelist shows would be replaced with 24 hours of ANH, TESB, ROTJ, TPM, and AOTC.

And we could put KJA to death as a heretic!
I vote for piling rocks on his chest, ala Salem Witch Trials. Though crucifixition has some nice aspects as well. Takes a really long time to die...

I'd known about this, but I had thought it was England that had done that, but Australia is just as good.

I had thought that the governments of just about every country (including our very own place Down Under) countered the "Jedi Religion" thing by saying that for "Jedi" to be recognised as an
actual religion (heh), it had to have all these elements and other crap in it's organisation (or something). To be honest, I'm just itching to hear the dumb ass outcries opposing Jedi being consider an actual religion because it's only "make belief"...

Though, technically speaking, you can't be a Jedi by just writing it down a census, can you? Where's the years of dedicated training? Lazy bums.

Actually, 'Jedi' isn't an official religion anywhere.

Of course Jedi can't be an official religion. It does not extort money from its followers by alternately promising horrible torture for retaining wealth or promising spiritual nirvana for giving it up.
Having said that, I entered "Jedi" on my own census, here in Canada. And if the government wishes to contest that by laying charges for fraud, let them. I dare any lawyer to prove that I do not believe in the values of the Jedi in a court of law. Moreover, I defy any lawyer to define religion in a manner that excludes Jedi without also excluding other "legitimate" religions.

Jedi's actually a pretty good religion. I mean, it's all about serving the greater good, helping others, and being at peace with the universe. We even have our religious attire and symbols pre-made.
