Emphasis mine.

This raises a question: Why are Spaarti cylinders called so?

Brand name? Name of the species that designed them? Who knows.

Hm. Suggests that the Spaarti cylinders Thrawn used was more advanced than those used by the Kaminoans in AoC.

Or maybe named for the particular scientist who invented them. I always tried to find a link from AoTC cloning to Spaarti cloning by speculating that the Spaarti cylinders were named for a Kaminoan scientist who made the first working one. The problem with these is that Spaarti doesn't sound very Kaminoan to me.

(actually we don't know much about Kaminoan naming conventions, but the 'Noans tend to have short, simple 2-part names such as Lama Su, Taun We or Ko Sai - and the name likely to be used for a product named after the inventor is the family name.... maybe Kaminoan names are composed of the family name and then a given name?? Who knows??
OK, it might be easier if we for the most part keep the Kaminoans out of this. Gee, I get thirsty by saying "Kaminoan" so many times....)

And so continuity is spared once again. Bravo SW.com.

The name could orginally have been Spaar Ti. Common use would have shortened that to create Spaarti.

That was actually the angle I was going for (in my fanfic) when I heard about AotC.

Interesting suggestion. But it doesn't have to be a Kaminoan who invented it - there are other very skilled cloners in the galaxy, such as the Khommites (who have instituted cloning as the de facto method of reproduction) and there are countless other cloners.

Based on the vast differences between the Kaminoan cloning method and the Spaarti technology, it appears to be nothing else but a complete modification of the growth vats. This does not require the Kaminoans at all, in particular since it is a massive change in paradigm from their prefered cloning methods. As I see it, it was probably some Republic (or Confederacy) special project to make cloning more affordable and more productive in the short-term, so they just took Kaminoan vat technology and adapted it into the creation of the Spaarti cylinders.

Spaarti technology is very, very different from Kaminoan cloning tech. This does not fix the continuity, but only sheds some light.

The real beef is solving the question of where all the stories about the Spaarti clones comes from. Pelleaon refering how he, with the Republic fleet, encountered the first [Spaarti] clones, and they were completely mad.

There needs to be a story written with the Confederacy or a third party using large amounts of rapid-mass-produced Spaarti clones of questionable sanity to crew its vessels in offensive against the Republic in order to solve the continuity question.

Hopefully Zahn will shed some light upon it...because you do raise a good point, virtually everyone remembers the clones in a bad light, but why(aside from lack of AoTC knowledge).

The Republican Grand Army saw action in only the most ferocious of combat and deep in the war zones and at the spearhead of offensives. They were not going to be the soldiers about that people saw, these would be conscripts/volunteers that probably did most of the occupation work and garrison as well as light combat duty.

Also, the way they're describing it, hordes of ships operated by mass-produced insane Spaarti clones were used en masse against the Republic and they went amok half the time. Imagine hordes of ships full of clones dropping down on planets and randomly butchering people. Conducting BDZs for no reason, etc, etc.

Point is, we need that Spaarti hole plugged, but it isn't like the people saw a lot of the Kaminoan clones anyway. Its possible they didn't even know they were clones. If Palpatine can hide that a large percentage of the stormtroopers are clones, maybe he hid that the Republican Grand Army was as well.

We should neither forget that the Kaminoans are one of the most reclusive species in the whole galaxy, and few of them ever have left their homeworld. So they probably have very little connection to Spaarti cloning, or the galaxy around them.
