C3PO shot in Cloud City

In TESB, C3PO wanders into the wrong room and is blasted to pieces by somebody off camera (stormtroopers?).
What was the point? Who cares if a protocol droid is wandering around?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it might have been Boba Fett that shot him. So maybe Fett recognized him. Although the dialogue and voice suggest otherwise...

I think the presence of stormtroopers alone in cloud city is enough of a bad thing. After all, Threepio must know that he and the rest of the gang are on the run from Imperials.
As for the stormtroopers, remember that Vader knew (from Boba Fett) that Solo and the rest were headed for Cloud City, hence why the Executor got there first before the Falcon. The stormtroopers just wanted to keep their presence hidden.

Protocol droids talk. That's what they're designed to do. Obviously, if you're a stormtrooper and you've been ordered to keep your presence secret for now, you don't need a protocol droid running around blabbing to everyone.

and he did say he would warn the others when they plugged him back in.

Plus, it's obvious that shooting him doesn't cause any real harm to his brain systems, so the stormies wouldn't even need to exercise caution; if he turned out to be an Imperial droid, they could put him back together, no harm done.

I wonder what they shot him with. The damage didn't appear to be from a regular blaster rifle. A low-powered concussion rifle blast, perhaps? Some other specialed gun?

Maybe they just turned down the yield on a regular blaster rifle.

Can someone explain to me why the supposed stormtrooper who blasts threepio sounds a bit like Yoda? Doesn't sound anything LIKE a stormtrooper.

I think Threepio's exact words when Chewie turned him back on where
"Stormtroopers here, I've got to warn the others, Oh no i've been shot"

I think the blaster rifle also just pushed 3P0 back and let the wall dismembered him the way he was.
We did see 3P0 lose his arm just by falling down in ANH.

How could you get an impression of an old man?
He had a gruffy voice like Wuher if he had a helmet on.
That's how I got it heh.
