A-Wings carry bombs!
I don't know if anyone noticed this before, but check out this clip of the Battle of Endor from RotJ:
http://168.229.236.7/~cc/movies/batlscn2.avi
Put it on loop and after analyzing it long enough, you'll see that the A-Wing drops off a bomb that flies from its right side and then into the trench of the Star Destroyer! You can see two turbolaser bolts from the Nebulon B interact with the shield near where the bomb hits before it makes contact with the trench. After the bomb contacts, you can see another turbolaser bolt from the Nebulon B interact with the shield near the bow right after the bomb hits the ISD. The puzzling thing is that the bomb causes an explosion around the mid-section of the trench anyway...do both the bow and mid-section of an ISD share a shield section? If not, then this proves that the shield sections do exist. Or if they do, then it proves that some bombs can pass through ray shielding and particle shielding before exploding, damaging the ISD without having to take out its shields first. Interesting, no? I have a feeling that everyone here already knows this and I'm about to feel like a jackass...

Hmm...
It almost looks like a TIE spinning out of control. But you're right, it could be a guided bomb...

Re: A-Wings carry bombs!
Very interesting. The blast is probably worth high-megaton range or so.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:The puzzling thing is that the bomb causes an explosion around the mid-section of the trench anyway...do both the bow and mid-section of an ISD share a shield section? It is the Executor, not an ISD, by the way.
Executors do have seperate bow and starboard/port shielding, by the way.
So this does prove shield sections. Official prediction validated in canon. Good work.
EDIT: Review has shown to me that the A-Wing fires double bursts at one of the TIEs (apparently an Interceptor) in the flight that later passes through screen. It careens into the Executor. Some frames reveal the fireball flickering away--and you can make out the damaged TIE.
Still, this does prove shield sections, if not A-Wing bombs.

DGG: I'm not sure how to do MSMP screen captures, but I've isolated a still where I can see the A-Wing firing its lasers at the Interceptor.

Aww....it looks so much like it's been launched upwards and then it homed in on the trench. Oh well...
Hehehe...I think I unveiled more SFX botch-ups. I watched it over and over and over again and saw that there were only two TIE Interceptors flying, and the one the A-Wing clipped came out of nowhere. This could be an argument for:
1. Anti-capital ship TIE Interceptor launchers on A-Wings.
2. Cloaking TIE Interceptors. Another argument for this would be the TIEs that appeared out of nowhere just before swarming the Millenium Falcon.

Could go ask how in the OT. Either way, it must make a big explosion. MT level you say. The clip doesn't work for me, so I can't tell where it happens; I just remembered that the other thread was almost exactly the same.Illuminatus Primus wrote:DGG: I'm not sure how to do MSMP screen captures, but I've isolated a still where I can see the A-Wing firing its lasers at the Interceptor.

If the A wing dropped that it has a very fucked up trajectory.

phongn hypothesizes this is a much larger Nebulon-B CVL, as opposed to the FF seen in ESB.Wicked Pilot wrote:And check out the Corvette glitch, the thing looks smaller than the Falcon.
Shep argues that the Corvette is behind the Nebulon-B, but I personally can't tell.

One of the "single deck" micro Corvettes based on the original linear Falcon as portrayed in Brown's site?Darth Garden Gnome wrote:Well, I saved it to the comp, and now I can see it. The corvette is in front of the Neb-B. The TIEs that fly near it seem too big for it. Could be a modified version of the Corvette.
Are you sure it isn't the Frigate that's much bigger?

If you watch it frame by frame, you can see it's a TIE fighter spinning out of control. If go from the "bomb" part and rewind frame by frame, you'll see there's a very small grey dot in a flight pat, likely a TIE with a lot of shadow, long before the A-Wing passes. The A-Wing actually covers it for like a frame or two.

D'OH! You're right. It's an Interceptor that flies from behind the ISD with the other two in formation, then it breaks the formation by turning to the right and slamming right into the A-Wing. I guess that's a good reason for having shielding. Then it rapidly spins around and falls into the trench. Maybe the gravity from Endor caused it to move downwards?

It doesn't slam into it. You can clearly see the laser fire prior to its spinning out of control--it passes in front of the A-Wing.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:D'OH! You're right. That frigate would have to be at least the size of a Calamari Cruiser if the Corvette was 150m.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Are you sure it isn't the Frigate that's much bigger?
EDIT: And on further inspection, it is the A-Wing that shoots the third TIE that collides with the ISD.

It could be under 1 km. Which would be appropriate for a light picket carrier.

This is the original thread on the subject.
As for the Frigate, I'm going to have to take a look on the VHS to get a better view. IIRC, the Corvette is in front of it at at least one point. In the original thread I sort of jokingly postulated that it might be a heavy Corellian fighter or bomber.
I think for seeing if the Frigate is bigger, we could look at a) the size of any window ports/lights visible or b) its relative size to the brim trench, if possible to discern.

And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

According to the novelization, there were more than just Corellian corvettes there (The Corellian ships, IIRC, formed up at least several heavy capital ships, probably the only others aside from the Mon Cals)Robert Treder wrote:This is the original thread on the subject.

How does this change the fact that the Corellian warship seen is almost certainly a Corvette yet seems scaled wrong?Connor MacLeod wrote:According to the novelization, there were more than just Corellian corvettes there (The Corellian ships, IIRC, formed up at least several heavy capital ships, probably the only others aside from the Mon Cals)
