I want Tahiri dead! (NJO spoilers

Seriously. In the NJO she has ceased to contribute to the story. She loved Anakin, he died, and I feel bad about it.
BUT, she's stopped evolving. She is sad, she goes insane sometimes, and she has another personality in her head. They spend WAY too much time on her, and I find myself skimming over the Tahiri sections. Also, her origin bugs me. Raised by Sand People?
Sounds like bad fanfic.

Makes her sound like a bad copy of Jaina, and that's saying something.

She'll probably end up having some kind of Vong implant in her brain or something to explain why she has all these problems

She already has! Read Edge of Victory 1: Conquest (IIRC).

Yes, Tahiri was a much more interesting character when Anakin Solo was still alive. Except they killed him off, and don't quite seem to have figured out what they're going to do with Tahiri.

Honestly, I completely agree with you. She was one of my favorite characters while Anakin was still alive, but since FH1 she's been going steadily downhill. Unfortunately, it looks like she'll be a major character for the rest of the NJO (The Final Prophecy has her on the cover).

I don't think they should kill a character off because a couple of authors don't know how to write her, but I do think they should consider eliminating characters that are no longer contributing to the story. Tahiri was important when she was with Anakin, but I'm not completely convinced Anakin is done in terms of the NJO. He was supposed to be important, in the prophecy of Ikrit, and rule number one on developing a plot says that if you have a character make a prophecy it had BETTER come true. If Anakin is, in fact, coming back (in a not-wholy unexpected move), then they do need to keep her around to show the character dicotomy.
I actually think she could have continued as an interesting character if they had focused on her GROWTH following Anakin's death, but too many writers try too hard to come up with uninventive ways of showing a character grieving, which almost invariably hide that character from readers when they need to see the character the most.

Very much agree. Granted, you have to have a period of time where Tahiri is just a mess and still suffering from Anakin's death, but it would have been cool if you had seen Tahiri slowly developing the fighting spirit and agressiveness of Anakin that was such an integral part of Anakin's character. Then you really wouldn't have to bring Anakin physically back to life, you could just say that he is living through Tahiri. That would have been a MUCH better use for Tahiri, and would have been a much more vivid tribute to the great character that was anakin.

I wouldn't mind seeing Anakin come back, honestly. I think it would be a good thing, there are those prophecies, after all.

Right. Something to the effect of, "My boyfriends dead. He didn't die for nothing if I start kicking ass, now."
It would have been much more interesting to see her grow to become the leader that Anakin had been.
I'm also not sure that I like the way they handled the grieving process. Tahiri should have been more serious in how she dealt with it, at least publically. She can go home and be sad by herself, but when she's out and about there are other people who are depending on her, and that didn't come across at all in the series.

Quick question:
Is there a website or somesuch that lists the NJO books and important plot developments? I gave up on EU novels completely after Vector Prime, so I'm a little outta the loop.

Timetales Chronology has a summary of the NJO up through Enemy Lines, but unfortunately it is currently down.

NO. FUCKING. WAY!
If any writer does this, I will totally go 'Kath Bates' on their miserable asses. A character dies, they're dead, move on. It's the ultimate cop out, I really can't stand it.

Try downloading their .zip file. Its more up-to-date anyway.

It's not exactly a cop-out, though, given Ikrit's prophecies. It may have been planned all along (the entire NJO arc was planned, if I'm not mistaken, over four years ago).
Hmmmmm sounds like fun...

I like Tahiri. To be honest, she was first introducted in all of the books I skipped in the NJO trilogy - Star by Star being just one example. Thus I have only seen Tahiri in the "after-period" of Anakin's death. From that perspective, I find her an excellent character and one of the patently most tragic.
Then again, I have to agree with Duran. Anakin will probably make some kind of return - and I wouldn't doubt through Tahiri, either.
If they're going to kill someone, I say take out Jacen Skywalker. I hate his little ethnical battles. It certainly surprises me that we didn't see anything more from Jaina or Kyp about the Dark Side during these past few novels - hell, it was hinted that Duron was the most powerful Jedi of all after Anakin himself.
hehehe

SPOLIER-If you read traitor that will change Jacen is pretty powerfull he can detect vong predict there movements there thoughts... he can make ampustaffs *sp* not attack him through the force..... crazy book if the writers go by it the vong are screwed.....

KJA wanking. There is no way Kyp Durron is a more powerful Jedi than Luke.

Traitor is actually pretty well-liked (its my favorite NJO book, after SbS).

Luke Skywalker is the most powerful known Jedi in the known history of SW.

No, just the most powerful one in RECENT SW history.

They claim to have "roughed out" the major plot points a couple years back, but they simultaneously state that they want to give authors flexibility wherever they can. I'm not sure when Anakin's death was planned, or when Ikrit's prophecy was planned (or even if they remembered the damn thing when they decided to axe Anakin), but this strikes me as being such a publisher thing to do....

I agree. I'm tired of his goddamned ethical dilemmas. It's been THREE YEARS since he started them. Hasn't he at least reached some sort of resolution since then? None of the other Jedi are handcuffed by indecision, why is he such a pussy? His pacifism wasn't even interesting when it was introduced, and it's only gotten worse since then. Anakin was the one I really liked, of the three Solo kids, and then Jaina is an okay character, but Jacen hasn't advanced the plot significantly at all, and he's not interesting. Why is he still alive?

Have you read Traitor yet? Some interesting things happen with Jacen, and he's almost a different character at the end of the book.
