EP 4 A NEW HOPE
(please be kind on the quotes from the film. Im doing this off the top of my head..will review my original VCR Tape casset when I get home.)
.Scene on Tantooine when Luke takes C-3PO and R2 in to get them cleaned up. Lukes says something to the effect "Unless you can transport me off this planet or speed up the harvest I'm stuck here for antoher season" or something along those lines.
C3PO replies "I have no information for that AT LEAST NOT ON THIS PLANET, INFACT IAM NOT EVEN SURE ON WHICH PLANET THIS IS"
I am almost positive on the bold qoute.
Does this open the posibilites that the SW universe has "Teleportation/Transporter Tech" and "Time Control" tech somewhere in its galaxy?

Eh, that's kinda funny, but who knows?

Luke meant transport by a ship, not a teleporter.
Nothing in the EU has ever indicated widespread use of teleportation devices, as many species have moral qualms about them.
The only teleporter device I know of is the hoop thing that the one circus guy had...blah, can't remeber his name.

I never said it was wide spread I asked if the tech possibly exsists based off dialog from the scene.

Time-altering technology does exist: stasis fields.

The quote is actually:
Luke wrote:Well, not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock!
Threepio wrote:I don't think so, sir. I'm only a droid and not very knowledgeable about such things. Not on this planet, anyway. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure which planet I'm on.
So he was specifically talking about teleportation. I don't think it necessarily is very significant, though. Luke is obviously speaking facetiously, and as Threepio says, he's only a droid and not very knowledgeable about such things. Besides, it seems like Threepio is trying to steer the conversation towards finding out what planet he's on. If he hasn't had a memory wipe since EII, then it may be a clever ruse to pretend that he doesn't know the place.

Yeah, it was teleport, and he was joking.
After all, Threepio isn't very knowledgable about such things.
You have to be careful about taking throwaway lines to heart. On the TrekBBS, one poster took Anakin's line in AOTC "I killed them all" to mean that he had killed every Sand Person on Tatooine, and that having them in ep IV was a continuity violation.
So... be careful.

True; we don't let the Fivers or Trekkies get away with taking dialogue too literally, and we shouldn't start doing it ourselves.

You're kidding, right?
PLEASE tell me you're kidding.
Damn.

He could just mean teleportation in the
theoretical sense.

The word "teleport" exists in modern-day dictionaries. It is a well-known word and used quite often. The concept of teleportation is known to everyone over the age of six.
Does this mean that we possess teleporters?

No. However Starwars up to that time had 25,000 years to develop that kind of Tech so I'm surprised they don't have it.

perhaps its not cost effective.

Or pehaps they came up with Technology to stop teleportation. Like jamming.

Sadly... no. I once had a guy tell me the moon's magnetic field was only ofset 90 degrees from north to south. The moon doesn't even HAVE a magnetic field.

The only teleportation I've heard of in SW is Force-related, from the Aing-Tii. Each fictional universe has its own set of rules (different methods of FTL travel, for instance... each relying on a particular fictional universe's set of rules). It may be that after 25,000 years of research and
not coming up with technological teleportation means that teleportation by means of technology is impossible by SW's rules. (And perhaps even teleportation of biological life forms in general; I don't know much about Aing-Tii teleportation, but I hear it only works on inanimate objects.) Just as the Force is not a part of the rule set for the majority of other universes.
Of course, when using versus debates, we have to create a merger of rules between the universes that are combined (SW vs ST would have teleportation allowed because of ST, and the Force allowed because of SW). But this is PSW, so we don't have to worry about that here.

They can teleport their ships--which means they can teleport biologicals.

Ah, okay. Can they teleport themselves in a way similar to Nightcrawler from the X-Men? Is it stated how difficult it is to teleport? Just curious, finding specifics on the Aing-Tii's Force abilities is difficult, and I don't have the books any details is gone into on them.

Yeah, kinda a "poof" thing. They can teleport other objects or their own ships.
They can also bring known objects TO them. At one point a guy brings himself a vase from another room.
hmmmmm

You could give humanity till the heat death of the universe to develop FTL drive, but we'll probably never get it.

Bah, he'd need at least a Star Destroyer to do that, or 50 legions of Sarduakar...

The Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia - Version 5.0 wrote:
Mystifying Hoop Trick
developed by an unusual alien and stolen by Wim Magwit, this unusual device defies any specific explanation of its operation. Essentially a pair of hoop-shaped frames which were studded with replaceable matter transmitters, the hoop trick seemed to instantly transport anything that passed through one hoop to the other. In this way, Magwit could hold one hoop in his hand and step into it, and re-appear from the other hoop. The exact method of matter transfer is unknown, although the transmitters themselves have to be constantly replaced from burnout. (EGW)
