Who is the greatest Jedi?
And among the Jedis shown at the movies, who is the strongest?
Is it Vader?
And can Vader do the force shock lightning thing?

Exar Kun probably. He can trigger supernovas with the Force, IIRC.
That is, if you mean by most powerful when you say "greatest".
From the films, Anakin.

Are you talking about the kid who pointed out that someone erased Kamino from the archives?

The supernovea are triggered by virtue of some weird Sith device. It was Aleema Keto who set off the Sith Starbuster--and she was just a Sith Acolyte.
Luke Skywalker is the most powerful Force Sensitive.

Wouldn't Anakin be the most powerful no matter what? Higher midiclorion (spelling?) count than Yoda who is ment to be the most powerful.
I'd say Exar Kun is the greatest, but only cos I thought he was cool, poor excuse, but hey...

Higher midichlorian number means bigger sensibility for the Force, on the other hand you still have to learn how to use it properly. Anakin didn't learn enough. He left the Jedis early and Palpatine never tought him everything because he didn't want to create a real rival for himself.

If it's Infinities, it's out of the heirarchy all together (essentially).

He may have left the Jedi early, but he still recieved a lot more training than Luke ever did. All Luke got was those few hours in the Falcon in ANH, and however long he spent on Dagobah in ESB, plus a bit of independant study in between.
I think that Vader's weakness stemmed from the fact that he was never able to completely give himself to the Dark Side, especially in ROTJ. A Force user sitting on the fence between darkness and light is less powerful than one who's commited to either side.

I totally agree with you!
BTW please note that I didn't say Luke was better trained...
On the other hand a hint for everyone:
The thread's title is "The greatest Jedi".
Forget Vader since his rather a Sith Lord. Forget Anakin since although he has the best potential he isn't even a knight yet.
Forget Luke from RotJ since he promoted himself to master. He has a very good potenetial also, still he is untrained. Of course in the EU he makes unbelievable acts...later.
By the time of the movies - all of them - the greatest Jedi is Yoda.

When did Luke promote himself to Jedi Master in ROTJ?

Ummm..... Vader is a Dark Jedi, that makes him a acceptable choice.
If not, then lemme revise the question. Who is the greatest Jedi/DarkJedi/Sith/Force weilder???

From
Ask the Lucasfilm Jedi Council
Steve Sansweet wrote:In order to allow unlimited freedom of storytelling, the Infinities label has been placed on the anthology series, Star Wars Tales. This means that not only can the stories occur anywhere in the Star Wars timeline, but stories can happen outside continuity. Basically, if an event happens in Tales, it may not have necessarily happened in the rest of the expanded universe. For some stories, the distinction is largely inconsequential. For others, it's the only way they could exist (for example, there's a Darth Vader vs. Darth Maul comic coming soon).
Emphasis my.

Officially, he's a Dark Lord of the Sith, which is quite different from just being a Dark Jedi.

Depending on how you define "great", it's between Palpatine and Luke Skywalker. One for being the first Sith Lord to ever achieve the goal of wiping out their arch-nemisis, and the other for bringing the Jedi back from the ashes.

Vader is NOT a dark jedi, Vader is a SITH. A completely different thing.
The Jedi see the Force as an end in itself (IE: their ultimate goal is to simply master the Force as well as they can and use it to better the galaxy).
The Sith see the Force as a MEANS to an end: power. The Sith want to control the galaxy, and they will use any means necessary (including the Force) to achieve that goal.

Palpatine. It took Luke, Leia, Han, Vader, and the entire New Republic to bring him down and keep him down. Yeeah.
